The increasingly varied returns Out of Place La Spezia, contemporary theater paths in the present, flagship project of Waste Innovation production center of Liguria, created with the contribution of Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation within the scope of the Call “Contemporary culture guidelines” and supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Liguria Region.
“My compliments for this new program of Fuori Luogo, a rich calendar that involves all generations and has now become an unmissable cultural event for our city – declares the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini - An important opportunity for sociality and culture to reflect, learn more, get excited and have fun in the name of art and creativity, elements that have always characterized the activities of Dialma Ruggiero.”
“For this thirteenth edition with the provocative title MAINSTREAM – explains the artistic director Andrea Cerri - we will present shows and projects which, although through the rigor of research, artistic experimentation and marked by cultural risk (by their nature and attitude far from the concept of Mainstream intended to describe "mass" phenomena), manage to sink into the living flesh of contemporaneity, addressing the entire community, trying to speak to a broad and popular audience, crossing different poetics and languages, starting from our territory to extend our gaze to what happens far from us."
Many guests: da The little men, who will conduct an investigation in the Fossitermi neighborhood, "stealing" the stories of the inhabitants to return them to the stage with their comic-grotesque verve, up to the Berlin collective Rimini Protokoll, which will bring a double humanoid robot by the German playwright to the stage Thomas Melle, passing through the new show-device of the pioneer of participatory theatre, the Catalan Roger Bernat, and the works of Roberto Abbiati, Compagnia Licia Lanera, Fabiana Iacozzilli, Massimiliano Civica, Tony Clifton Circus, i Sacchi di Sabbia, Francesco Alberici, Filippo Nigro and Fabrizio Arcuri, Balletto Civile, Teatro dei Borgia, Gianluca Stetur; It will become out of place home and agora for citizens.
The festivals will close the season: returns to its second edition Whole life ahead. Theater festival for old people of the future, curated by Alice Sinigaglia, which this year will be accompanied by the return of the training course with young people from La Spezia high schools No Recess! and by 23 25 to June not to be missed FisiKo! International Festival of Bad Actions, a project that focuses on dance and body languages.
The final show of the project will also be hosted this year For Aspera to Astra – how to reconfigure the prison through theater and beauty with the inmates of the prison Villa Andreino della Spezia (promoted by Acri and 11 foundations of banking origin including Fondazione Carispezia and curated by Gli Scarti). There will also be a focus on the little ones, with the season Fuori Luogo Kids, an opportunity for children and families to experiment through theatrical play.
This year too it will support the season of Fuori Luogo 13 MAINSTREAM the project Tea Time: a series of small performances, meetings and screenings with artists and experts from different disciplines, with a view to leaving the theater container and opening up to contamination with the other arts. And always with a view to enhancing the creativity Under 35, come back Prophets in the Homeland, a project of small performances by local artists who have left and then returned. There is also space for performative poetry with some evenings of Poetry Slam: Senti Che Muscoli SP!, organized in collaboration with The Mitilants, who disembark at Dialma! for the first time.

Complete program of shows at Dialma, La Spezia

A job not to be missed Out of place he wanted very strongly to highlight belonging and interpenetration in the social fabric of the city.
From Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th October for the first time in La Spezia theNational Assembly C.Re.S.Co. important and fundamental national coordination that brings together and represents over 200 promoters in the cultural sector: artists, professionals, structures and festivals that use the new languages of the scene, placing itself as a proactive interlocutor with national institutions (MiC, MAECI, MIM) and regional institutions, acting as spokesperson for collective requests. The stage space is a substitute for a circus. It is the drama, or perhaps the comedy, of K, who wakes up one morning to find fully dressed policemen in his room.
Saturday November 18 Fuori Luogo hosts the Licia Lanera Company, who returns to La Spezia to present With the rifle, by Pauline Peyrade, with Danilo Giuva and Ermelinda Nasuto, show UBU Award 2022 as best direction and best foreign text/dramaturgical writing (staged by Italian companies or artists). Born from the pen of the French playwright Pauline Peyrade With the carbine is a lucid and impartial text, which overcomes the supposed dichotomy between good and bad, analyzing the cultural and anthropological mechanisms underlying gender violence. The stage, a claustrophobic and violent non-place, hosts only two actors, Ermelinda Nasuto and Danilo Giuva, now teenagers, now adults.
The director and playwright Fabiana Iacozzilli will be at Fuori Luogo on Saturday 25 November with the class, a docupuppets for puppets and men, a story that comes from memories of elementary school at the Sisters of Charity institute linked to her teacher, Sister Lidia. The puppets move without pathos on wooden tables that recall school desks, but also operating or slaughter tables. A collective ritual, poised between The dead class di Tadeusz Kantor e The Cannibals by George Tabori, in which adults reread the memories of a childhood lived in fear of getting hit.
Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December it maestro Ubu Massimiliano Civica Award, often a guest at Fuori Luogo, presents the conference-show The Angel and the Fly, commentary on the theater of great Mystics, produced by Teatro Metastasio in Prato: stories, jokes and funny riddles that have always been used by the great Masters of the West and the East to "smuggle” profound teachings, to open the hearts of men to a higher understanding of reality. The tales of Baal Shem Tov and the Rebbes of Hasidism, the stories of the Sufis and the poems of Jalal al-Din Rumi, the riddles of Zen and the parables of Jesus in the Apocryphal Gospels will be used to try to illustrate and explain aspects, behaviors and situations of the world of theater and its protagonists.
Tony Clifton Circus returns on Saturday 9 December, already guests in the last edition, on stage this time with Christmas Forever– euthanasia of an overweight myth, a crazy and exhilarating journey through the folds of a contemporary myth, absolute symbol of the tendency to limitless consumerism, one of the Olympian deities of the collective imagination: Santa Claus, saint, old man, wise man and superhero, kidnapped with the intention of killing him.
The year ends for Fuori Luogo Friday December 22 with another long-awaited return to La Spezia: The Sandbags with The oldest comedy in the world, a talk about The Acharnians of Aristophanes, an opera that today no one stages anymore but which has a comic device, cleaned of the waste of time, still explosive. With an angry and idealistic grin, Aristophanes builds a new world free from injustice and hypocrisy, where poverty and war do not exist.
It will be a prestigious production WASTE – which after its debut in Spezia will go directly to the Piccolo Teatro in Milano .- the first show of the year, Thursday 25 and Friday 26 January 2024: Bidibibodibiboo, finalist text for the 56th edition of the Riccione Prize for the Theatre, by Francesco Alberici – former Ubu under35 Award – also on stage with Daniele Turconi, Salvatore Aronica, Maria Aaris and Andrea Narsi. Produced by SCARTI Centro di Produzione Teatrale d'Innovazione in co-production with Piccolo Teatro di Milano – Theater of Europe, CSS Stable theater of innovation of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Autonomous body Teatro Stabile di Bolzano and created within theÉcole des Maîtres 2020/21. With great tenderness and irreverent irony Alberics tells the choices and sacrifices, dreams and great fears of a generation grappling with a dramatically ruthless world of work. The jury of 56a edition of the Riccione Prize for the Theater underlined how «with an effective and measured composition, the author tells the protagonist's fall into the corporate hell with dry verisimilitude and effectiveness: attacks, shame, dismissal, omission, liberation.»
Saturday February 17 the actor Philip Nigro, among the most interesting faces of Italian cinema and theater, will be at Fuori Luogo with Fabrizio Arcuri to present Every Brilliant Thing (The things that are worth living for), text written by Duncan macmillan in 2013, a narrative punctuated by lists of things worth living for, a story in the form of a confession composed of small illuminations, encounters and manias, in which the actor focuses on the relationship with his father, the failure of his marriage and seeking help in times of difficulty. One comes out unpredictable, exciting and very personal list, made up of episodes and anecdotes captured on the fly by the protagonist in the margins of books, receipts and coasters.
Saturday February 24 great appointment with the international artistic scene: the Rimini Protokoll collective - among the most important theatrical innovators of the last twenty-five years - presents Uncanny Valley in Spezia, where a humanoid robot reproduces in every way a real person, the German playwright Thomas Melle. What does it mean for the original when the copy takes its place? Can the original know itself better through its electronic double? Why, while on the one hand similarity facilitates the acceptance process, if the robot is too similar to a human being do we feel a strange distrust? What is human and what is machine? The audience is invited to let themselves go on a journey through the uncanny valley.
Friday 15th and Saturday 16th March Balletto Civile presents Davidson, dance show based on the screenplay of The Wild Father by Pier Paolo Pasolini, story of a sensitive and acute black boy, coming from an African tribe, and his encounter with a progressive and tormented teacher - a frontier figure alter ego of Pasolini himself - who tries to give his boys a modern and anti-colonialist. In Davidson the bodies of Maurizio Camilli and Confident Frank they dialogue with each other by addressing political and poetic issues such as the relationship between whites and blacks, the problem of freedom and democracy and the difficult relationship between us and each other.
Saturday March 23 the public will be invited to reflect on the meaning of political militancy, on the rights of citizenship and on the ideals of freedom and democracy, but also on theater as a poetic and political tool thanks to Giacomo of the Borgia Theatre, already guests at Fuori Luogo in 2023 with the City of Myths trilogy. The show aims to highlight the political discourse of Matteotti, comparing two of his speeches in Parliament: that of 31 January 1921, in which he denounces the connivance between the bourgeois political forces and the fascist gangs, and that of 30 May 1924, the last session he attended before being assassinated, in which he contested the results of the elections of April of that year. Matteotti's speeches are re-proposed in their naked and terrifying truth and conveyed by the body of Elena Cotugno, the only actress on stage.
The review continues on Saturday 6 April with The Choice by Catalan director Roger Bernat / FFF. How do you choose shows for a festival? What are the considerations that an artistic direction faces? Are there purely aesthetic criteria? From what mental show, from what ideological script do we draw our opinions on other people's shows? What are the clashes, the artistic, economic, ethical and political discussions? In this show Bernat – famous for his participatory devices in which spectators become spectators – leaves it up to the participants to respond to these questions and to choose, together, a show that will be programmed in the next season of Out of Place La Spezia.
Closing this varied season of Fuori Luogo will be Saturday April 20 the intense and talented Gianluca Stetur, artist who over the years has worked with the biggest names in theater and who often leads workshops for actors in Spezia, with Darkness Caligula, show directed by Ombretta Nai, produced by WASTE Center for Theatrical Production of Innovation.
In May 2024 the final show of the training project will also be held No Recess!, permanent laboratory with high school students from La Spezia, which this year, for the first time, joins "Whole life ahead. Theater festival for old people of the future”, with an entire week of shows dedicated to creativity Under 35.
Finally, for the first year in collaboration with Fuori Luogo it will be held Feel the SP Muscles!, review of poetry slam at Dialma, organized by The Mitilants and composed of three elimination rounds and a final in which the winners of each round will compete with verses to win the slam. During the poetry competition, the participants recite texts written by themselves, subjecting themselves to an evaluation jury composed of five elements drawn by lot from the public.
