Vicolo Consalvi: ribbon cutting for the ABAMC light design project.
Macerata, Vicolo Consalvi is a project that is in continuity with the Light Design Strategy, the convention commissioned by Municipality of Macerata atAcademy of Fine Arts, conceived and created by the course light design and which has already affected, in previous years, the Sferisterio and Piazza della Libertà areas. The Municipality of Macerata participated with the projectartistic lighting by Vicolo Consalvi, already approved by the Regional Superintendence of Fine Arts, in the Marche Region's call for contributions for light design artistic installations for the enhancement of historic villages and centres, 2022, and came first in the ranking.
“This intervention – declares the Councilor for Culture of the Marche Region Chiara Biondi - it is the result of constructive collaboration between institutions and makes use of the skills and knowledge gained within the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata. In this way, that key process in contemporary societies that goes by the name of knowledge-transfer is implemented. The objective of the regional tender in which this action is part is to combine the redevelopment of urban areas, creativity and technology. It is a strategy that aims to enhance the villages and urban centres, which best represent the history and potential of our region”.
“Through the creativity of art we return Vicolo Consalvi to the people of Macerata, a space which, thanks to a spectacular play of lights, comes to life and comes back to life – commented the mayor of Macerata Sandro Parcaroli -. The urban aspect and the cultural aspect, in this unique light design project created by the Academy of Fine Arts and financed by the Municipality and the Marche Region, come together in a union that enhances and gives new life to an important space of the historic center. As an Administration we are carrying out concrete, structural and coordinated actions and interventions for the overall redevelopment of the historic center which, combined with the many cultural and popular events, make the heart of the city shine. The opening of Vicolo Consalvi is not a point of arrival but another piece of a unitary program launched and already appreciated by the citizens".
Rossella Ghezzi, Director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata, she declares: “I am proud to underline the value of Vicolo Consalvi's artistic intervention which takes on a new visual dimension, enhanced by fragments and contemporary quotes belonging to the sphere of culture and art. A journey that reflects on the idea of beauty that light extraordinarily enhances. A line that marks a new path, colors the city like a powerful signal of passage aimed at
encourage deep reflection. Light breaks down and reanimates a place."
The teachers are leading the project of the Light Design course of the Academy of Fine Arts of Macerata, a working group composed of professors Francesca Cecarini and Mascia Ignazi and professors Piergiorgio Capparucci and Rossano Girotti, plus the contribution of the architect Sara Cerquetti and the student Antonio Lelii . The students of the Painting course led by Professor Federica Giulianini and Professor Emanuele Bajo also collaborated on the project for the photographic documentation. For the Municipality of Macerata the intervention was promoted and coordinated by the engineer Tristano Luchetti and the Technical Services Service. The concept of Vicolo Consalvi fits into the most contemporary Public Art projects, artistic and research practiceswho have made public space the privileged place ofcultural interventions and collective participation. In direct communication between artist and citizen, Public Art has become increasingly popular over the last few decades a form of cultural expression, where co-planning between art, architecture, light design, urban design, landscape and interaction design is fundamental. The light design project created for Vicolo Consalvi in Macerata effectively embodies the concept of "immersive path” urban, through creative installations linked to the concepts of national and international light art, capable of transforming the space into an artistic and creative environment. Every art intervention is, in fact, connected toexpressiveness of light, with references to the works of light artists, poets, writers and musicians, which can be explored further using mobile devices to download the interactive guide to the project.
"Through interpretation, understanding; through understanding, appreciation; through appreciation, protection.” With these words Freeman Tilden, among the first to establish the principles and theories of the interpretation of cultural heritage in the book Interpreting Our Heritage from 1957, defines the conceptual model that inspired Vicolo Consalvi, where the actions undertaken and the design choices intended to respond to the nocturnal visual definition of a public environment, privileging expressive-communicative needs.
The perception of the new environment: “The path of creativity”.
“Artistic” light and aspects of the individual – environment relationship.
Light and orientation.
Light and space: memory and new identity.
Light as a symbolic sign.
In these five significant points the planning of Vicolo Consalvi is summarized, from today a city space returned to the community that metaphorically tells the story creativity of art. Vicolo Consalvi represents a new image of the place narrated by a new light, protagonist of a journey of emotions capable of leading the visitor into an unprecedented synesthetic and participatory experience.
