A Silent Book Club will also start in Vicenza on Thursday 25 July at 19pm at the former greenhouses of Parco Querini. After a short presentation of the initiative, you can share an hour of reading, in silence, outdoors, cui a convivial moment will follow, of exchange of reading tips, but also tasting local products in the name of conscious food choices, healthy and sustainable, thanks to the European project H2020 Cities2030 – Co-creating resilient and sustainable food systems towards Food2030, in which the Municipality of Vicenza also participates.

The Silent book club initiative is promoted by the municipality's environmental department together with the Bertoliana civic library, in the wake of experiences already started in other Italian cities, but above all abroad. Silent Book Club (SBC) is in fact a registered trademark created in 2012 by two American girls, Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich. The characteristic is that we meet to share the pleasure of silent reading, each with a book of their choice. The place doesn't matter, as long as it is quiet and there is good lighting.

"AThe center of a regeneration project that I immediately dealt with are the former greenhouses of Parco Querini – declares Sara Baldinato, councilor for the environment and heritage –, an enchanting place in one of the most evocative views of the city. While waiting for the city to be able to continuously enjoy these spaces, making them full and once again the greenhouses of Parco Querini, the Silent book club is a beautiful initiative that unites more than 50 countries around the world and that brings them back to life , giving the many reading enthusiasts the opportunity to regenerate in this place, and then exchange comments on the books. A small buffet with local products, in the name of a healthy and correct diet, will give us the opportunity to disseminate the concepts explored in the city thanks to the European Cities2030 project".

«Like the recently launched 'Open Courtyards' initiative - underlines Alberto Galla, president of the board of directors of the civic association of Vicenza -, which involves the outdoor spaces of the Bertoliana offices in contra' Riale, the Silent book club, albeit individually and silently, also offers an additional opportunity to bring people together and bring them closer to books and reading, in shared way. We have also found the convinced support of the city's bookshops, which will in turn promote the initiative with their customers, and of the newly created reading group aimed at young people between 20 and 30 years old, which has taken its first steps for a few days at Palazzo Costantini."

To the appointment, all you need to do is bring your book under your arm and maybe a blanket or a pillow: sessions will in fact be available, but nothing will prohibit sitting down to read directly on the lawn, in front of the former greenhouses.
