Vicenza: Festival Illustri, over 2000 under 18s among the 10 thousand visitors of the exhibition dedicated to the world of illustration in the municipal offices

With almost 10 thousand visitors in municipal offices only, the Illustrious Festivals - open from the 29 June, but which has been in full swing since the end of August – is confirmed as a highly appreciated event by the people of Vicenza and by the many enthusiasts who come from outside the city to dive into the world of illustration.
The conclusion, Sunday September 29, of the exhibitions in the Basilica Palladiana (over 4400 visitors since August 31st) with Sala Zavatteri (750 admissions from the end of June to August 31st in addition to the 4400 subsequent admissions to the Basilica), Galleries of Palazzo Thiene (2400 visitors), to which are added the almost 1700 visitors at Palazzo Cordellina, is the occasion to take stock of the exhibition, of which the exhibition “Most Illustrious Javier Jaén” at Gallerie d'Italia – Vicenza.
«The Illustri festival confirms itself as an event full of stimuli – comments the councilor for culture, tourism and the attractiveness of the city Ilaria Fantin – , capable of involving not only enthusiasts of the world of illustration, but also children and families who since this summer have found welcoming containers in the many exhibition proposals of the event. The exhibition has in fact opened its doors free of charge to about 2000 under 18s: a truly significant number that speaks of a young and very young audience, which we are looking at with great attention for the importance we attribute to cultural experiences in the formation of tomorrow's citizens".
In this regard, the data collected in the last week of the festival is also particularly interesting, with well 500 children and young people entered during a period of school opening: a starting point for evaluating the organization of the 2026 edition in months more suitable for educational visits.
During the festival, there were numerous initiatives accessible to all ages. The most appreciated was the creative area of Sala Zavatteri, populated by giant flowers illustrated by Controversa.
«Some of these very colourful works – announces the councillor Ilaria Fantin – will be donated to furnish our classrooms or other places dedicated to the activities of the little ones. A gesture of great generosity and a sign of the passage of this event in the spaces of our city that have been able to welcome the contemporary, the wave of color of the festival, without the beauty of the places being in any way obscured, thanks to the very successful choice of installations designed ad hoc».
The formula of the proved to be particularly appropriate, moreover. open ticket, a litmus test of a significant portion of the public who fully experienced the festival locations and took the time to enjoy the contents inside prestigious venues that have entered people's daily lives.
They were over 200 illustrators present in the various exhibitions, but this year more than ever the exhibitions were only a part of the event that gave ample space to in-depth analysis. The guests, including Luca Sofri, Mary Sebregondi e Paul Iabichino, have been able to bring new and enriching contributions to the theme of “complexity”.
While the dismantling of the exhibition is underway in the municipal offices, the exhibition “Mind the gap: 12 illustrators talk about STEAM women” at Palazzo Bonin Longare, headquarters of Confindustria Vicenza. A project that saw the involvement of the Fogazzaro High School and which is the subject of a fundraiser in favor of Donna Chiama Donna.
It remains open instead until the 27 October the exhibition “Illustrissimo Javier Jaén”, at the Gallerie d'Italia – Vicenza, with numerous workshops for children and young people.
«In the meantime the Illustri Association – informs us Christina Malavolta, the festival's operations director, – is already starting to lay the foundations for the usual Christmas initiative, Merry Illustri, which in the last two years has donated around 20.000 euros to local associations (Agendo and Donna Chiama Donna)».
The festival was organized by the Illustri Association with the Department of Culture, Tourism and Attractiveness of the Municipality of Vicenza in collaboration with Gallerie d'Italia – Vicenza, the museum headquarters of Intesa Sanpaolo.
