Vicenza, Remembrance Day, events in the city to commemorate the victims of the foibe and the Dalmatian Julian exodus

Remembrance Day, celebrated every year on February 10, commemorates the massacres of foibe and the Julian Dalmatian exodus after the Second World War.

The Municipality of Vicenza, in collaboration with the Bertoliana Civic Library, the Pedrollo Music Conservatory, the Fondazione Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza and the Vicenza section of the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia (Anvgd), offers a full calendar of events for all ages spanning from the 5 22 February, including institutional ceremonies, shows, concerts, book presentations and readings aloud with workshops in the city's neighborhood libraries.

The two institutional ceremonies organized by the Municipality of Vicenza in collaboration with National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia (ANVGD) – Vicenza section.

At the former Opera Pia Cordellina college (home of the Giuriolo middle school, in contra' Santa Maria Nova) on Friday 9 February at 10 am a laurel wreath will be laid in memory of the Italian exiles who found refuge in this place on 3 February 1947, which at the time was the seat of the convent of Santa Maria Nova.

At the Maggiore cemetery, Saturday 10 February at 10, a laurel wreath will be placed on the monument dedicated to all the victims of the foibe and the exodus from their lands of the Italians of Istria, Fiume and Dalmatia.

The schools will be involved on Thursday 8 February at 10am, in the Sala del Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale Città di Vicenza, on the occasion of the theatrical show “Steps” with Farmacia Zooè.

As part of the "Musical Saturdays" series, on Saturday 10 February at 17pm in Palazzo Cordellina (Bertoliana Civic Library) you can attend the concert "Adagio by Samuel Barber transcribed for flute choir". The last two events on the calendar are organized by the Municipality of Vicenza, in collaboration with the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia (ANVGD), with free admission until all available places are filled: the Sala degli Stucchi of Palazzo Trissino on Monday 12 February at 17.30 pm will host the meeting "The Day of Remembrance and the institutions twenty years later" with Davide Rossi of the University of Trieste; at Palazzo Cordellina on Thursday 22 February at 17.30 pm the book by Roberto Spazzali, “Pola. Furthermore, the Bertoliana Library has prepared a program of readings aloud with a workshop in the branch offices entitled “Let's remember peace” from 5 to 19 February.

Readings are dedicated to children between 6 and 10 years old, organized by the Cooperativa Socioculturale-Biblioteca Bertoliana, on Monday 5 February at 17.00 pm in the Anconetta branch, in via Dall'Acqua 16 (information and reservations 0444578264, anconetta.bertoliana@comune.vicenza.it) and on Wednesday 7 February at 16.30 pm in the Riviera Berica headquarters, viale Riviera Berica 631 (information and reservations 0444578262, rberica.bertoliana@comune.vicenza.it).

The event on Friday 9 February at 16.45pm at Palazzo Costantini, in contra' Riale 13, is aimed at children aged 4 and over and is organized by the Bertoliana Library volunteers Marta Peruffo and Giuliana Serblin (information and reservations 0444578223, pcostantini.bertoliana@comune.vicenza.it).

Thursday 15 February at 16.45 pm in the Villa Tacchi headquarters, viale della Pace 89, Maria Grazia Cristino, Annarosa Favero and Renata Serra will entertain children between 6 and 10 years old (information and reservations 0444578263, vtacchi.bertoliana@comune.vicenza.it).

At the Laghetto headquarters, in via Lago di Pusiano 3, on Friday 16 February at 16.30 pm the readings, curated by Daniela Bilibio, will be aimed at children from 6 years old (information and reservations 0444578265, laghetto.bertoliana@comune.vicenza.it).
