Verona, three days of music with “Medici per Strada”
A special celebration of music, for peace, la solidarity and the concrete support for the work of Emergency and Doctors Without Borders.
A non-profit cultural event of fundraising, promoted for the second year from Medici per Strada APS, and to which all bands and associations joined for free.
Remembering and carrying forward the commitment and passion of Gino Strada, who was a professional and moral example for doctors. Returns in the second edition, in squares and streets of the city centre, the long weekend in music, to have fun and do good. It's 'Doctors on the Street', the cultural event promoted by the association of the same name with the participation of the Municipality of Verona and many companies and associations of local volunteers to raise funds for Emergency and Doctors Without Borders.
"A beautiful event - explains the Equal Opportunities Councilor –, which already last year activated the city center in an innovative and different way with many groups and above all with a very high attention to human rights, to solidarity. An initiative that is part of that broad activity that we have been carrying out in the last year to look beyond the city borders and draw attention to all those conflicts that continue to persist in the world and to give visibility to all the GMOs that are active at an international level and are a medical and solidarity center for populations that are victims of conflicts and for those who have difficulty accessing care".
"It was a pleasure to follow and support the process of creating this event, which has a very high capacity for involvement in a very important cause in favor of associations that do so much in the world for the health and lives of those most in difficulty - declares the councilor for health –. The music and the will of all the professionals involved become a vehicle to animate an entire city, also attracting the many tourists who are present there in this period. It will be a great party, for a special fundraiser."
The music started on Friday afternoon in Piazza Bra, to continue until Sunday 2 June with events also in via Mazzini, Porta Borsari, Cortile Marcato Vecchio, Porta Leoni, Cortile del Tribunal, Piazza dei Signori.
Over eighty bands involved including many composed of doctor-musicians, together with Veronese music schools and the Verona Conservatory. The bands will alternate with shows in 12 squares, for a splendid charity marathon from 10am to 20pm, to continue in the evening on the Mura Festival stage at the bastions of San Zeno, with moments of reflection on the right to health as a universal value, with Doctors Without Borders, Doctors for Peace and Libera.
The event was presented yesterday morning by the Health Councilor and by the Equal Opportunities Councilor. Present for the Medici per Strada association were Emilio Confetti, Chiara Chiappa and Beatrice Zuin and for the Medici Senza Frontiere association Giovanni Di Cera.
"The watchwords are 'Kindness and Peace' which are the universal values underlying human rights - underlines Emilio Confetti –. We encountered a lot of solidarity and many supporters which significantly increased the event, which this year took place over three days. All bands and associations joined for free. Around five hundred people are involved in this event on the wings of music to make the possibility of doing good fly through the donations that will be collected by the 'medical buskers' of Medici per Strada”.
