In the dramatic pages of Italian history of the Second World War, Campo Fossoli, near Carpi, in the Modena area, it represented the transit point used by the German SS for deportation to the concentration camps in Germany. A place of horror, from where, on 12 July 1944, the 67 anti-fascist civilians aged 16 to 64 were taken and soon died, by shooting, in nearby Cibeno.

Among the victims also the Veronese Armando Di Pietro and Renato Mancini, remember by the councilor for historical memory Jacopo Buffolo who spoke in Carpi, with the city banner, at the 80th anniversary commemoration ceremony.

During the ceremony, the symbolic delivery of the Stumbling Stones named after the 67 Martyrs of Fossoli took place, a project of the Fossoli and Aned Foundation. The initiative to restore dignity and remember the victims of fascism and Nazism through a small stone that reports the essential data of their biographies is due to the German artist Gunter Demnig, who since 1996 has posed over 100.000 of them throughout Europe, thus creating the largest widespread museum in existence.

"We gave voice to the 67 stories of anti-fascist civilians killed in 1944 by linking them to the collective memory of resistance to Nazi-fascism that the Constitution gave us - commented the councilor for historical memory Jacopo Buffolo - It is our duty to carry forward the construction of a democratic collective memory for the hope of an ever better future."Verona, in occasione dell' 80eismo anniversario dall'eccidio di Cibeno, dedicate le pietre d'inciampo a 67 martiri di cui due veronesi
