Venezia 80: the official selection.
The program of Venezia 80 has been announced, which will be held from 30 August to 9 September. There are six Italian films competing for the Golden Lion announced by the artistic director Alberto Barbera with the president of the Biennale Roberto Cicutto.
Comandante by Edoardo De Angelis with Pierfrancesco Favino will arrive at the Lido in its world premiere, which will be the opening film and in competition at the 80th Venice Film Festival. The other Italian titles are “Io Capitano”, by Matteo Garrone; “Finally the dawn”, by Saverio Costanzo; “Enea”, second work by Pietro Castellitto, also the protagonist together with Benedetta Porcaroli; “Lubo”, by Giorgio Diritti; “Adagio”, by Stefano Sollima with Toni Servillo and Valerio Mastandrea.
Other titles announced include Woody Allen's “Coup de Chance”, “The Palace” by Roman Polanski and “The Order of Time” by Liliana Cavani in the Out of Competition section.
Competing for the Golden Lion, among the 23 titles in the competition, in addition to the six Italian ones, we find “Dogman”, by Luc Besson; “Maestro”, the second directorial by actor Bradley Cooper who here dedicates himself to the biography of the composer Bernstein; “Priscilla”, the eagerly awaited new film by Sofia Coppola about the true story of Elvis Presley's wife; ”The Killer”, the new thriller by David Fincher with Michael Fassbender; “Poor Things,” by Yorgos Lantimos with Emma Stone; “El Conde” by Pablo Larrain with a vampire Pinochet and the biopic “Ferrari”, by Michael Mann with Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz.

Out of competition:
Among the Out of Competition it is worth mentioning the choice of two TV series, I Know Your Soul e D'argent et de sang, the latter which will be screened in its entirety with all 12 50-minute episodes. It will also arrive at the Lido Woody Allen with Cup of Chance, Wes Anderson with the medium-length film based on a story by Roald Dahl, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar (and a stellar cast) and even Travis Scott, protagonist of an experimental work by Harmony Korine (for A24) entitled Aggro Dr1ft.
Big names out of competition are also Richard Linklater with Hit Man, Roman Polanski with The Palace and Liliana Cavani, who will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, with The order of time. The surprising Quentin Dupieux is also expected with Daaaaaali!
Semper Fuori Competition will also be the closing film (a Netflix production), The Snow Society by JA Bayona.
