Varese, Cortisonici Film Festival from 14 to 22 April

The Varese festival blows out its twenty candles

Varese, Cortisonici Film Festival from 14 to 22 April.

Cortisonic Film Festival, in Varese from 14 to 22 April, turns twenty this year: a milestone that the event celebrates with a renewed, more intense edition and by adding extra evenings of screenings, with moments that retrace the history of the festival and bring some of cinema's most beautiful short films back to the big screen emerging intercepted over these years, between beauty and extreme visions, and with many new elements.

In fact, screenings start as early as Friday 14 April with the Grand Gala al Cinema New, where the audience in the theater will be able to see and reward the short films chosen from a selection of the best films screened during the twenty years of cortisone. The screenings at Nuovo will begin at 20.30 pm, while from 23.30 pm we will move to Warehouses by Tumiturni with an infernal first appointment, with a selection of the most bizarre films of the twenty editions: here too the public will be able to vote. For the most diehards, the evening doesn't stop and continues on, with screenings until dawn.

There will be a Wednesday 19th April Focus unpublished, an appointment with challenges involving cinema, with film critics Andrea Bellavita e Rocco MoccagattaBeing 20 years old: the definitive challenge between auteur cinema and genre cinema. The event will be at 21.00 pmMusic High School Auditorium.

The evenings of international competition, as always, there are three: Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April at Cinema Nuovo, with a festival that confirms the international spirit thanks to films coming from Canada, South Korea, France, Greece, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, United Kingdom, Spain, United States, Sweden and Switzerland, and for the first time with competing works from South Africa, Lithuania and Turkey. A selection work, coordinated by Marta Uslenghi, to bring twenty-two films to the screen, chosen from more than 3.500 received, which will be evaluated by the technical jury, which this year is entirely Finnish and made up of members of the Film Society of the University of Helsinki: bringing a young and certainly attentive gaze to the explorations of emerging contemporary cinema.

A historic edition also for the extreme section Inferno. In fact, there will be three hellish nights: the first is on Friday 14 April, with the tribute evening to the Magazzini by Tumiturbi entitled "Hell: the worst of our worst?”; the special event follows on Thursday 20 April at the Cinema Nuovo with the screening of Mad Heidi, Swiss horror comedy by Johannes Hartmann e Sandro Klopfstein, a film that made headlines for its violent and gore scenes mixed with moments of comedy and irony; finally with the appointment on Friday 21st at the Magazzini by Tumiturbi, for a traditionally extreme hellish night.

And it comes back too Cortisonic Guys, the section dedicated to the work of under 20s and coordinated by Tatiana Tascione, with an appointment on the morning of Saturday 22 April within the setting of the Cinema Teatro Nuovo in Varese. Over thirty short films arrived from all over Italy, involving young directors aged 11 to 19, both through school and extra-curricular projects. The jury that will evaluate the works is made up of young students in their first year of the Cinema, Television and New Media course at theIulm University of Milano, thanks to which they had the opportunity to cultivate their passion for cinema and audiovisual art by participating as jurors in some film festivals and gaining experience in the field for the creation of their own products, including short films and video clips.
