On the occasion of the Corsa dei Castelli, the stand of the Municipality of Trieste in Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia will continue to remain open, every day from 11 to 19.

Events Schedule

The #100UniTS Corsa dei Castelli will be preceded by the 2nd International Road Race Running Match u.23 10k, an event included in the World Athletics calendar, always organized by ASD Promorun of Trieste with the collaboration of the Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL), a competition that has 10 participating nations: Denmark, France, England, Israel, Poland, Czech Republic, Serbia, Slovakia, Switzerland and, of course, Italy.

The next start is for the runners of the #100UniTs Castle Race which will be followed by the departures of the participants Ten Non Competitive and Family Run 8 km, the latter without the need for membership and a competitive medical certificate.

The path

The route is really straordinario, the departure would be enough, in the presence of the Miramare Castle, to be left speechless but Trieste has a heritage of landscape and architectural beauty that will be revealed to the participants during the race. From Miramare Castle, in fact, you go hunting for speed for the first 8 km before entering that masterpiece that is Unity Square and bring out energy, courage and determination to achieve the Castle of San Giusto tackling the climb of the last kilometer, defined as “The wall".

Anyone who wants to enjoy the event without worrying about the clock can take part in the Non-Competitive Ten, a parallel event for which membership and the presentation of a competitive medical certificate are not required. For everyone, with the aim of educating people about outdoor sports activities, the Family Run 8 km with arrival in Unity Square.

The numbers and the athletes

The commitment of Asd Promorun and the partnership with the University of Trieste are certainly bearing excellent fruit, they are already over 2 thousand athletes, amateurs and citizens who have accepted the invitation to celebrate the centenary of the University and a day of sport by running or walking through the streets of the city. Numerous presences have already been confirmed from abroad which will make the race deeply international, in which runners from all over the world will participate. Albania, Austria, Canada, Colombia, Croatia, Egypt, Estonia, France, Ghana, Ireland, Israel, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and USA. A positively surprising fact is the pink share, at the moment already more than 45%.

The presence of the Ugandan has already been confirmed Martin Kiprotich who this year set his best of 27'28” in Madrid and recently finished fourth in the Giro al Sas di Trento. Kiprotich knows the streets of Trieste well after triumphing in the last edition of the Corri Trieste last May, crossing the finish line in 28'20” which, until a few days ago, had earned him the best performance of the year on Italian soil.

History

In the history of this event are written great names, already from first edition of autumn 2017 when, thanks to the Kenyan Ezekiel Kemboi, an extraordinary athlete capable of winning two Olympic gold medals and four world championships, the event immediately demonstrated his very high technical level.

The following year, the task of keeping the show going fell to the Ethiopian Hagos Gebrhiwet, subsequently crowned world 5000m road champion and currently holder of the world's best performance of the year over 5.000m and the second best overall performance over the same distance.

Also for this edition the medal is in fact made with wood from fallen trees or from material collected during forest clearing.
