Trieste, first diving meeting: “City of Trieste Trophy” at the Bruno Bianchi swimming pool.
Yesterday morning (Thursday 14 November) the law was presented at a press conference in the Council Chamber the first edition of the Diving meeting “Trofeo Città di Trieste”, scheduled for Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November at the Bruno Bianchi Municipal Swimming Pool.
The Councilor for Sports Policies, Elisa Lodi, and Sigrid De Riz, General Manager of US Triestina Nuoto – Samer&Co. Shipping, spoke.
He has declared Councilor Elisa Lodi"I bring greetings from the Municipality of Trieste and great satisfaction in organizing a new sporting event for the city in the Bianchi Pool. This is the first international diving event post Covid, a great challenge for Trieste, which I am sure will also prove to be a great city event in this case. I thank the company for the work it does, in co-organization with the Municipality, proposing initiatives, offering great technical support, contacting federations, athletes and volunteers. The initiative is having an excellent response in the promotion, there will be prominent names. The hope is to see you again next year".
The sporting event is co-organized from the Municipality of Trieste and US Triestina Nuoto – Samer&Co. Shipping.
Reserved for the categories Boys/Girls (born in 2010 and 2011) and Juniors (born in 2007, 2008, 2009), it is the first international diving event organized in Trieste post Covid. It will see the participation of 30 athletes by invitation, young high-level divers, coming from 6 companies: Bergamo Diving, Rowing Milano, KSV Zadar, MR Sport F.lli Marconi, Navy and US Triestina Nuoto.
Among the athletes, the name of Marianna Cannone stands out, recently transferred to the Triestina Nuoto Samer & Co. Shipping company, who will soon take part in the Youth World Championships in Rio de Janeiro (24 November – 1 December 2024).
Godmother of the event is Noemi Batki, a world-class diver. Among his many sporting successes, the gold medal in the 10-metre platform at the 2011 European Championships in Turin, the silver medal at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest and 2012 in Eindhoven, and his participation in the Beijing and London Olympics stand out.
The “Trofeo Città di Trieste” represents an important opportunity for comparison for young Italian and foreign divers. The proposed formula, in fact, includes many changes compared to the federal regulation, with the aim of allowing athletes in the youth categories to try most of the free dives that will then be presented at the first stage of the Italian championship in December (Christmas Trophy).
Race schedule:
Saturday afternoon (starts at 14.30 pm)
Sunday morning (starting at 9.30)
SIt follows the idea of the synchronized diving competition, which involves the initial execution of two compulsory dives with a fixed coefficient for both of 2.0. Then each category, based on the height of the competition (1 meter and 3 meter springboard, 5 meter, 7,5 meter and 10 meter platform) will have to perform 3/4/5 free dives of different groups. The female categories will compete together, and then a ranking will be drawn up for the Girls and one for the Female Juniors. The same applies for the males.
Special guests:
Among the athletes present, Sofia Conte (MR Sport) and Lodovica Castellacci (US Triestina Nuoto) who last season participated with the Italian National Team in the Youth 8 Nations (Turin, 22-23 March 2024). Marianna Cannone, instead, participated as an Italian athlete in the Youth Diving Meet (24-27 April, Dresden) winning two finals (9th and 6th place), and in the Youth European Championships qualifying in both finals and obtaining two eighth places (8-14 July, Rzeszow, Poland).
There will also be several athletes who achieved titles and podiums at the Italian championships last season, including an athlete from Zadar who competed for the Croatian national team at the Youth Diving Meet in Dresden. Finally, it is worth mentioning the out-of-competition participation of some 2012 athletes (still in the C1 category) who will use the competition to improve their management of tension during the race.
Special performance:
Following the award ceremony by the councilor and the godmother on Saturday 16th, there will be an internal exhibition of the C4 and baby groups of US Triestina Nuoto Samer & Co. Shipping, which will include the execution of some exercises on land and in the water. This group is followed by coach Ibolya Nagy, former coach of Noemi Batki and former Hungarian Olympic athlete in 1992 in Barcelona.
