Trieste, 40 years of discoveries at Villaggio del Pescatore: celebrating the most important paleontological site in Italy
On 8 and 9 November 2024 Trieste celebrates the fortieth anniversary of the discovery of the dinosaurs of the Karst with conferences, guided tours and workshops, to discover the history and future of a unique site in the world.
In November 1984 Alceo Tarlao and Giorgio Rimoli, two people from Trieste with a passion for mineralogy and geology, discovered the dinosaur paleontological site of the Fishing Village.
On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the discovery, the Natural History Museum of the Municipality of Trieste promotes meetings, conferences, guided tours, workshops to raise awareness of the importance of the place and the findings.

Friday 8 November 2024
Civic Museum of Natural History of Trieste – via dei Tominz, 4
Guided tours, scientific meeting at the Museum and video screening (free entry until seats are taken, free participation)
15-17 pm: guided tours in the paleontology room with thematic stations and focus on new paleontological discoveries by the Natural History Museum of Trieste, with speeches by experts from the Museum, the University of Trieste, the University of Bologna, the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR), Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, Zoic Srl.
Natural History Museum, Paleontology Halls – Free admission until seats are taken
17.30 pm: round table dedicated to the discovery of the site with the stories of the protagonists and the participation of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape and the Municipality of Duino Aurisina.
18.30 pm: conference by Federico Fanti and Marco Muscioni, University of Bologna, “Macro/micro cosmos of the Fisherman’s Village”
19.30 pm: screening of “Dinosaur Hunter/ Mission Italy” produced by National Geographic/Disney Italia (45′).

10 am; 11.30 am; 14 pm: extraordinary guided tours of the dinosaur site of the Fisherman's Village, accompanied by the Natural History Museum (Deborah Arbulla with Sergio Dolce), experts from the University of Trieste, the University of Bologna, the CNR, Zoic Srl and the Estplore guides.
Entry by reservation only, free participation.
The activities are held in Italian, translation into Slovenian on request
10am – 12pm | 14pm – 16pm: “The Stone Dinosaur”, collective art workshops for children (primary school age). Free participation upon reservation
