The Tricolor turns 227 years old. Oristano also celebrates the anniversary that inspired the law that in 1996 declared January 7th National Flag Day.

“At the entrance to Palazzo Campus Colonna, an installation pays homage to the flag which is the emblem of the values shared by our community – underlines the Mayor Massimiliano Sanna -. It is no coincidence that Parliament wanted this anniversary to honor our tricolour, the flag - as President Ciampi said – of our cities, of our homes and of the armed forces, the flag that we have loved and that we love strongly”.

The tricolor that flies in the headquarters of the institutions was born in Reggio Emilia. It had military origins and the 7 January 1797 it was adopted by the Cispadane Republic. In 1848 it became the banner of the Kingdom of Sardinia and froml 1861 of the Kingdom of Italy. In 1947 the Constituent Assembly will define its form by solemnly indicating it in the Constitution.

On the entrance door of the town hall, three window stickers summarize the meaning and educational message of the day, thus citing the symbols of the Republic: the anthem, the emblem with star, cogwheel, olive and oak branches, the banner of the Head of State and above all the Tricolore.

“But together with article 12 of the Constitution we liked to remember a passage from President Mattarella's end-of-year speech: contributing to the progress of the Republic can only arouse pride – highlights the Mayor -. Listening, participating, seeking what unites are the values underlying our coexistence, the sense of citizenship and the achievements of democracy that encourage all generations. Green, white and red are a beautiful metaphor for all this and what we celebrate with joy in Oristano renews the bonds of identity and diversity, in unity, which make us feel part of a single homeland".
