La Spezia, “In love with culture” 

On the occasion of February 14th, Valentine's Day, the Peracchini Administration promotes, through the Cultural Services, a calendar of initiatives on the occasion of this holiday, “In love with Culture”, involving the Cinema Odeon of the Ligurian Regional Media Library “S. Fregoso” with a national premiere film, the San Giorgio Castle Museum and the Seal Museum with educational workshops aimed at adults to create a special gift.

The “Cinema Odeon – The smallest cinema with the biggest films” of the Ligurian Regional Media Library “S. Fregoso” offers a special event for cinema lovers: “Odeon in Love”, with the national preview of “Finamente l'Alba”, a film by Saverio Costanzo with Willem Dafoe and Alba Rohrwacher, which was in competition at the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival. A free gift will be given to all viewers on Valentine's Day. Finally Alba is a dizzying journey into the heart of Hollywood on the Tiber, including quotes and homages to the greats of cinema. Saverio Costanzo returns to direct his own original screenplay after the success of the My Brilliant Friend series, of which he retains the approach, and begins with a "film within a film" that underlines the fiction of cinema. Finally Alba is a film about the redemption of the simple, the naive, of those who are still capable of looking at the world with amazement. Its protagonist Mimosa is a blank sheet of paper, on which each of the characters she comes across writes her story, without fear of being judged.

An international and prestigious cast, Lily James plays one of the two female protagonists, while the second protagonist is played by debuting actress Rebecca Antonaci. With them a fantastic Joe Keery and an amazing Willem Dafoe. The times for Wednesday 14 February are: 15.00 pm; 17.15pm; 21.00 pm.

The workshop entitled “A heart of steatite” will be held at Castello San Giorgio from 16pm to 17pm: steatite is a soft stone that is simple to work by smoothing, in fact it has been used since the Neolithic to create perforated jewelery and pearls which were later found in the tombs of the time also in our territory. With the workshop we will try drilling the stone using the Neolithic drill and create a splendid heart-shaped pendant to celebrate the feast of lovers.

From 17pm to 18pm, the workshop entitled: will be held at the Seal Museum: “the seal, guardian of loving thoughts”. The seal as a quirk and fashionable artifact used in private correspondence has been a consolidated habit since at least the 18th century and throughout the following century. Letters and notes between lovers were the favorite recipients to receive these precious sealing wax closures, messengers of amorous mottos which, transferred onto paper, alluded to the confidential nature of the content. Double matrix seals could also contain the monograms of a couple as evidenced by the precious English seal depicting two intertwined hands, which we admire in the room of jewel seals. Inspired by nineteenth-century custom, let's try our hand at writing a secret thought using ink and nib and then experiment with sealing with sealing wax.

The museum workshops each have the cost of 5 euros and booking is mandatory.
