La Spezia: “Small Big Treasures to be rediscovered” is presented at the Seal museum.

Yesterday morning the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini, the manager of Cultural Services Rosanna Ghirri and the curator of the Civic Museum of the Seal Barbara Viale they presented at the press conference the renewed museum layout and rich program of events planned on Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November for a major relaunch of the Museum.

“The Seal Museum is a real jewel in the heart of the city, unique in the world from a qualitative and quantitative point of view – declares the Mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini – the new setup will bring a further enhancement of the collection and museum spaces as well as the rich program of events designed specifically to involve every age group and explore issues related to the cultural heritage preserved here.”

For the first time in the history of the museum, they will be revealed over 300 unpublished seals from the civic collection which includes in its exhibition more than 1800 specimens resulting from the Capellini and Fiocchi Banfi donations. The Museum, originally developed over three rooms, was expanded thanks to theinclusion of a fourth environment located at the beginning of the route and intended for a chronological exhibition of the seals, which proceeds from its origins to the modern era. The second room has also been partially revisited, preferring instead a typological criterion: the numerous display cases host groups of seals united by the nature of the material they are made of or because they can be traced back to an artistic language that strongly characterizes them, or even to a favorite theme .

The improvement of the museum layout was then followed by actions aimed at improving its readability through an adaptation of the information supports which integrate the visit: room panels and a detailed brochure were designed and created - which is offered to visitors together with the entrance ticket to the Museum - and an in-depth itinerary accessible via the QR-Code system, designed by Dramatic Iceberg, today available for some showcases and which will then be applied to the entire museum itinerary.

On days of Friday 10th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November will be organized at the Seal Museum and in the Special Library of Art and Archaeology meetings and workshops dedicated to involving visitors in some of the many themes that the collection offers, in particular to try their hand at creating an oriental seal and get closer to calligraphic art, trying firsthand the engraving of soapstone and writing with calligraphic papers and inks
