“The Oscar Nights. The open-air cinema in squares, courtyards and gardens of the city" is the film festival strongly supported by the Peracchini Administration, which offers citizens the free viewing of Oscar-winning films.
A heterogeneous and interesting exhibition for all generations organized by the Cultural Services of La Spezia, in particular by the Ligurian Regional Media Library “S. Fregoso”. The program includes the screening of five cinema masterpieces, namely “The Shape of Water”, “Coco”, “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri”, “Toy Story 4”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, all organized on different evenings and in four locations made available by the Municipality.
The program was presented this morning by the mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini and the director of Cultural Services Rosanna Ghirri in a press conference in the Multimedia Room of Palazzo Civico.
The mayor of La Spezia Pierluigi Peracchini declares: “The Oscar Nights are a traveling cinema project that intends to transform the squares, courtyards and gardens of our city into real cinemas. An experimental initiative which in future editions will involve all neighborhoods with the aim of creating entertainment, culture and meeting spaces as promised in our electoral programme. This year we are offering five evenings in four different locations in which award-winning films of different genres will be screened, ranging from children's animation, to dramatic, to musical biographical, such as the masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody, which offers a fascinating journey into Queen's artistic universe. These events are an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the magic of cinema, with content of the highest level, in the evocative settings of our outdoor spaces.”.

The shape of water, 28 August at 21pm, Piazza Mentana
Winner of four Oscars, including best film and best director. Guillermo del Toro turns an otherworldly fairy tale, set in the post-Cold War USA in 1962. The lonely Elisa, played by Sally Hawkins, is locked in a desolate life in the government laboratory where she works but everything changes when she and her colleague Zelda played by Octavia Spencer discover a secret experiment.
Coco, 29 August at 21pm, Piazza Bertone at the PM Beghi Civic Library
The animated film Coco by Disney Pixar is set in Mexico during Dìa de Muertos and tells the story of the young Miguel and his irrepressible passion for music. An incredible journey to discover the history of his family. Coco was awarded two Oscars including best animated film of the year.
Three posters in Ebbing, Missouri, August 30th at 21pm, Parco della Maggiolina arena
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri is a 2017 film written and directed by Martin McDonagh which won two Oscars out of seven nominations. The film follows the story of a mother seeking justice for her murdered daughter. Using her savings, her mother commissions three posters with three precise messages addressed to Bill Willoughby, sheriff of Ebbing, Missouri, to reopen the "case".
Toy Story 4, 31 August at 21pm, square in front of the Media Library
Fourth chapter of the very successful saga, Toy Story 4 won an Oscar for best animated film in 2020. In the film Woody, one of the protagonists, knows exactly what his place in the world is and that the priority is to take care of his child, but an adventurous journey with friends old and new will make him understand how big the world can be for a toy.
Bohemian Rhapsody, 1 September at 21pm, square in front of the Media Library
Bohemian Rhapsody is a 2018 film directed by Bryan Singer which retraces the first fifteen years of the Queen group, from its birth in 1970 until the Live Aid concert in 1985. Winner of four Oscar Awards - best actor, best editing, best sound editing, best sound -, the film tells the rise to success of Freddy Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon with their unique style so much so that they became a legend of rock music.
