On 23 and 24 September the Rally returns to Messina.
After a few editions away from the city of the Strait, the Messina Rally returns, the 20th edition of the motoring event organized by Top Competition, with the support of the ACI Sport Sicilia Delegation and the Automobile Club of Messina, sponsored by the Municipality of Messina and in partnership with the Metropolitan City of Messina.
Saturday and Sunday 23 24 September 2023, Piazza Duomo will be transformed into the fulcrum of the fascinating and historic race which celebrates its four-year anniversary and which will also be valid as the "6th Historic Messina Rally", as the "8th Zone Rally Cup" and the "Sicilian Championship for modern and historic cars". ”, the regional series promoted by ACI Sport Sicilia, led by Daniele Settimo.
The event, held in the province in recent years, returns to Messina also thanks to a strong interest on the part of the municipal administration, primarily the mayor Federico Basile and the councilors with responsibility for Sport and Civil Protection, Massimo Finocchiaro and Massimiliano Minutoli.
“Finally this historic Rally returns to Messina and we are thrilled“, declared Mayor Basile. “We supported the organization of the event because we believe in its strong promotional value for our territory and with Piazza Duomo, the historic hub of the city which will once again host a major sporting initiative. The Administration thus continues to be always close to supporting events of various kinds but united by a single common denominator, the promotion of Messina as a protagonist within and outside its borders", concluded Basile.
There is already a large number of participants for a race which, once again, is confirmed as a high-level event in the international rallying scene. On the evening of Saturday 23rd, starting from 20.30 pm, crews and cars will be welcomed in the shadow of the Duomo's bell tower. The departure is scheduled for 22pm, when the “Messina 1” Special Trial will begin which will bring the charm of night car races back to the shores of the Strait. On Sunday 24th, however, there will be three timed routes: "Roccavaldina", "Colli 4 Strade" and "Campo Italia", to be covered three times until the final finish line, scheduled for 19pm, again in Piazza Duomo.
In the 2022 edition the arrival was held in Villafranca Tirrena. On that occasion Marcello Rizzo and Antonio Pittella triumphed in the Skoda Fabia; in second place came Roberto Lombardo and Andrea Spanò on a Peugeot 207 Super 2000, ahead of Ernesto Riolo and Maurizio Marin on a Peugeot 208.
