The Chief of Police Vittorio Pisani meets the mayor of Diamante (CS). Honorary citizenship to the State Police and inauguration of the mural painting.
This morning the Chief of Police - General Director of Public Security Vittorio Pisani, accompanied by the Police Commissioner of Cosenza, met with the Mayor of Diamante (CS) Ernesto Magorno who awarded Honorary Citizenship to the State Police for their daily commitment to the entire national territory.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior Wanda Ferro, inside the “IISS Diamante” Higher Secondary Education Institute, in the presence of numerous young people. In the square of the Institute the students were able to meet the policemen involved in some of the information campaigns of the State Police: the stand created by the Scientific Police with the reproduction of a "crime scene", Traffic Police vehicles equipped with alcohol testing and drug testing, of the “Northern Calabria” Crime Prevention Department, personnel of the Operational Section for Cyber Security of Cosenza, Anti-drug and Anti-sabotage Dog Unit and the camper against gender violence of the “This is not love” campaign.
During the morning, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior Wanda Ferro and the Prefect Pisani inaugurated a mural painting dedicated to the Police Commissioner Angelo De Fiore. Present at the ceremony were the Police Commissioner of Cosenza Giuseppe Cannizzaro, the Bishop of Cosenza Monsignor Stefano Rega and civil and military authorities.
The mural, created by the State Police Inspector Luigi Perenz and the painter Angela Panetta, is entitled "homage to freedom".
Its realization comes from collaboration between the Municipality of Diamante, the Cultural Association “Italy-Israel Angelo De Fiore, a just among the Nations” and the Police Headquarters of Cosenza to perpetuate the memory and the virtuous example of the high official of the State Police who saved, during the Nazi occupation, hundreds of Jews from deportation to extermination camps. The mural symbolizes the simple gesture of donating a flower by citizens to those who, every day, ensure safety, protection and help, like the women and men of the State Police.
In his speech, the Chief of Police highlighted how great the example represented by the figure of Angelo De Fiore is, who in those years helped Jewish citizens and made important choices in the awareness of risking his life. He then thanked the mayor of Diamante for the recognition honorary citizenship to the State Police and for the donation of the building where the new police station will be opened. Prefect Pisani underlined that the office could be a point of reference for young people and for the entire local community in building a path of legality.
Diamante is also the city in which the stories of Inspector Mascherpa are set, the graphic novel of the State Police published and edited by the official magazine Poliziamoderna.
At the end of the ceremonies, the Chief of Police greeted the officials and staff on duty at the Cosenza Police Headquarters.
