It will be inaugurated on Saturday 16 December at 17.30pm at the Palazzo delle Paure la new Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art of the City of Lecco. The Gallery is the synthesis of two different exhibition itineraries: the Modern Art Gallery of Villa Manzoni and the Contemporary Art Gallery of Palazzo delle Paure.
The first, inaugurated in 1983, constituted the point of arrival of a long work of reconnaissance, cataloging and restoration of the paintings, of the prints and engravings, which reached the Municipality of Lecco through bequests and donations between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The acquisition of new assets, in particular of contemporary art, starting from the 2012s, led to a significant increase in the collections which, in XNUMX, with the renovation of Palazzo delle Paure, led to the inauguration of the Gallery of Contemporary Art, in a new location, suitable for the valorisation and use of the works, according to a path structured on the basis of the artists and with a large room dedicated to the "City of Lecco for art" project which, in the nineties, was enriched with works by internationally renowned artists.
The current museological project has involved the transfer of some of the most important works of the Gallery of Modern Art from Villa Manzoni to Palazzo delle Paure and the valorisation of the contemporary art already present with the creation of a chronological and thematic "continuum" from the 17th to the 21st century. The new Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art guides the visitor through the development of the history of art, in the passage between the various genres, themes, techniques, from realism to abstractionism, to photography, for a thematic and chronological itinerary built with the contemporary language.
Thus the culture councilor of the Municipality of Lecco Simona Piazza: “After a long growth path inaugurated with the opening of the Gallery of Modern Art at Villa Manzoni in 1983 and the Gallery of Contemporary Art at Palazzo delle Paure in 2012, we take a further step forward by unifying the two collections, with the aim of characterizing our museum centers, nominating Palazzo delle Paure as an exclusive art center and dedicating Villa Manzoni, also with a view to the future restoration with expansion of the Manzoni route, to a place dedicated to the theme of The Betrothed and its author. The gallery we are inaugurating will present new and more works, also displaying recent acquisitions and temporary deposits that the municipal administration has received in the last period, with the aim of further increasing access to our museum centers and making the vast artistic heritage that the Municipality of Lecco preserves".
