The embrace of the Pesaro schools for Zaki; Murgia: «Moment that will remain etched in everyone's memory. Long live freedom."
Pesaro returns to embrace, this time in person, Patrick Zaki who this morning met 300 students from the city (between 16 and 18 years old), gathered in the main hall of the Marconi high school in Pesaro, to talk about his “Dreams and illusions of freedom”.
At the beginning of Zaki's speech, Camilla Murgia, councilor for Growth and Kindness, said: «I am really proud of this city and its schools, engaged on the front line in the defense of human rights and the growth of new generations. The educational value of the school, supported by the institutions, is to develop critical thinking against single thinking, the true enemy of this society. Having freedom of speech, of thought, of demonstration is a right that cannot be renounced, even if our daily life (and our history) tells us that every day it is questioned, and it is important to defend it.
We entrust the new generations with the possibility of developing their own ideas, defending them and taking part in the defense of human rights, always."
The event with the institutes was organized by the Municipality, Pesaro 2024, the Provincial School Office, the Province of Pesaro and Urbino, the Network “#Responsibilities of high schools” of the territory together with the Pesaro group of Amnesty International and Stay Human.
«Thanks to the schools, the school office and the associations for this moment which will remain imprinted in the memories of all those present. Long live freedom" concluded Murgia.
The appointment anticipated the “Capital Meetings” promoted by the Italian Capital of Culture in the afternoon (17.30 pm, Palazzo Cacchi) during which Zaki will present his book “Dreams and illusions of freedom. My story" (The ship of Theseus – trans. Anna Maria Lorusso) accompanied by the Tg3 journalist Massimo Veneziani.
