Speakers::

Ines Pierucci, Councilor for Culture of Bari, Monica Filograno, Councilor for Culture of Ruvo di Puglia, Giulia Delli Santi, director of theatrical activities of the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese, Julia Pantus, representative of the Italian-Romanian association Concordia Populorum, Maria Rotar, director of the Teatro Excelsior company in Bucharest and Michelangelo Campanale, director and artistic director of La Luna nel Letto company.

The award-winning company La Luna nel Letto, active since 2002 in productions for adults and children, faces, together with a selected group of actors from the Excelsior Theater led by the artistic director Maria Rotar, Shakespeare's drama about love: Romeo and Juliet comes back to life on the stage thanks to the powerful interpretation of 13 artists belonging to two distant worlds, Romania and Italy. Two factions, real clans, the Italian Capulets and the Romanian Montagues, represent the clash between different languages and cultures, whose only possibility of integration is the love of two teenagers.

“Romeo and Juliet tells how the hatred of adults can kill any form of change for the young generations – he explains Michelangelo Campanale -. Romeo speaks in Italian, the language of the Capulets, only when he addresses Juliet and in that case it is a game of seduction aimed at her but also at the audience who, in seeing a character who shows his fragility in a language that is not his, becomes instinctively takes his side. And we entrusted lines in Romanian to Juliet in order to create a linguistic counterweight also on the Capulets' side. The two boys are the windows that open onto each other's world and it makes sense that they exchange languages while the families remain closed in their own language."

In beautiful Verona, between two large families, the fight breaks out: from their ancient hatred new riots arise and the blood of brothers flows beyond the insults. Children of those enemies, with no other way out, two lovers, marked by the stars, take their own lives. From the prologue of the text begins a restitution of Shakespeare's words in English, in all their original strength, which still resonate, punctuated by the voices at the microphone, like epic or sacred narratives: the heart and wonder of this writing are entrusted to the presence equally strong as the actors, who dialogue in the space of an essential scene made dynamic by the energy of the bodies.
In this version of Romeo and Juliet, constructed as a great ritual, we talk about love, but issues very close to us also emerge, such as the relationships between adults and adolescents, the clash between cultures, the insurmountable border dictated by prejudice and rejection of diversity, war.

The company La Luna nel Letto is a production company, recognized by the Ministry of Culture, in the fields of children's theater and prose; manages the Municipal Theater of Ruvo di Puglia, home to one of the centers of the "Pugliese Residency Centre", with multidisciplinary activities that intertwine creation, programming and training. Michelangelo Campanale is the director of the company: craftsman, light designer, stage and photography technician, set designer, trainer and teacher, he is also the artistic director of the Theatre.
The Excelsior Theater in Bucharest, founded in 1990 by the Romanian Ministry of Culture and subsidized by the Bucharest Municipality, is a public cultural institution, which boasts a permanent company of more than 80 people. It is a space open to creativity, which encourages dialogue between generations, different art forms and cultures.
