Teramo, Simone De Maggi awarded in the Municipality

Awarded by his city Simone de Maggi wheelchair basketball player who currently plays for Unipolsai Briante 84 Cantù. A champion of sport and life, after taking his first steps in basketball at the age of 15 in Teramo Basket, he received a diagnosis of osteosarcoma and had a leg amputated.

Yesterday morning the mayor Gianguido D'Alberto, together with the sports councilor Alessandra Ferri et al president of the City Council Alberto Melarangelo, received in his office at the municipal headquarters of via Carducci, Simone de Maggi, wheelchair basketball player who currently plays for unipolSai Briante84 Cantù, of A league of the championship, and former captain of the national team of the same discipline. Simone after taking his first steps in basketball at the age of 15 in Teramo basketball, after two years following the diagnosis of osteosarcoma, suffered the amputation of a leg.

The, to which Simone De Maggi attended with his family, he wanted to represent an opportunity for recognition for the young athlete, an example of great strength and determination, who taught and continues to teach, especially to the younger generations, a don't give up and always chase your dreams, even in spite of seemingly insurmountable difficulties.

The Mayor handed it over to the basketball player in a wheelchair, the stylophorous Lion, symbol that is assigned to figures that they allow our city to have a national spotlight but which is also the recognition for our fellow citizens who stand out for their authentic humanity in which, as in this case, talent is linked to willpower and love for life.

Gianguido D'Alberto thus underlined: "From your story emerge a capacity for resilience, a tenacity and also a charisma that are particularly important, because they translate into an example and stimulus for many young people but also for all of us. You are proof that, in any condition, everyone is given the opportunity to realize themselves; make your city proud to have a son like you."

Simone De Maggi said: “I am very honored to receive the recognition; I have been lucky enough to win several in my career, but this one takes on a special meaning precisely because it comes from my city. We organize many meetings with school children to show Paralympic sport and bring them closer to our reality, and we will continue to work hard in this commitment which we care about very much."
A relative of De Maggi added that it is “A recognition that Simone deserves first and foremost as a person; yes, it is a more special award, which makes us proud first and foremost."
