Syracuse, the seventh Tonino Accolla Award presented.
The seventh edition of the unique national award dedicated to cinema and dubbing, named after Tonino Accolla – famous voice actor and dubbing director born in Syracuse (who passed away in 2013), Italian voice of, among others, Eddie Murphy and Homer Simpson – will take place in Syracuse in Piazza Minerva, in the historic center of Ortigia, in the evenings of 29 and 30 July, starting at 20.30.
The event, which returns after a two-year break, restarts in the traditional formula that gave rise to the first live contest for dubbing students from Italian dubbing schools. Created by Stefania Altavilla, artistic director and president of Arca, and by Giuseppe Mandalari, the award - born with the initial collaboration and technical support of AMBI PICTURES e PHONOROMA - aims to promote and enhance the art of dubbing.
Two evenings at the end of which, after a remote pre-selection with the collaboration of Fono Roma, six students - 3 men and 3 women - will participate in the final of the contest which will take place in Piazza Minerva on the evening of Saturday 30 July. The evaluation of the performances will be the task of a technical jury chaired by Franco Mirra and from its response the best female and male voice will be chosen; they will be awarded the 2022 Tonino Accolla Prize.
The technical jury will include some of the best dubbing actors and directors in Italian dubbing, including Massimo Puccio, General Manager of SEFIT who will award the two winners the first round of dubbing for a new production. The Technical Jury will be supported by a jury of journalists and film critics including Renato Scatà who will award the Press Prize.
The latest edition of the Award in 2019 recorded the participation of over 100 students from 15 schools distributed throughout Italy.
During the contest, on the final evening, the students will have to perform individual and couple live dubbings divided into several tests; it will be a great dubbing show during which emblematic moments in the history of cinema and dubbing will be retraced.
The finalists, remember, appear at the lectern without knowing the text and must dub a anello in an extemporaneous manner.
Among the guests of the two evenings, Franco Mirra, director of Fono Roma, Mario Cordova - actor and dubber, voice of Richard Geere, Jeremy Irons - and Rossella Leone who with Mimmo Contestabile will host the show on the two evenings.
