Rome. Presented the commemorative stamp of Giovanni Gentile, on the 80th anniversary of his death. The Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, was present.

All official presentation ceremony, which took place on 10 April at the Salone degli Arazzi of Palazzo Piacentini, was attended by the Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, the undersecretary with responsibility for philately, Fausta Bergamotto, the president of Poste Italiane, Silvia Rovere, the president of the board of directors of the State Printing and Mint Institute, Paolo Perrone, and representatives of the Gentile family.

The philatelic issue reproduces a portrait of Giovanni Gentile, an authoritative twentieth-century European philosopher and one of the greatest exponents of Italian Idealism. Gentile, Minister of Public Education from October 1922 to June 1924, also went down in history for having accomplished in 1923 the Italian school reform known as the Gentile Reform.

The sketch was created by the Philatelic Production Center of the State Printing and Mint Institute and the stamp will be printed with the tariff indication "B" in two hundred and fifty thousand and twenty copies.

“Giovanni Gentile – observes the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano – together with Benedetto Croce he marked the Italian philosophy of the twentieth century. He positioned himself as the continuing philosopher of the Risorgimento, entrusting himself with the task of writing a civil history of Italy as a national Renaissance. I make my own both the words of Biagio de Giovanni, who defines him among the greatest of the European twentieth century, and those of Norberto Bobbio, according to whom together with Croce he created what he defines as Italian ideology".
