Roccatederighi: the magical atmosphere of 'Middle Ages in the village' returns.
The press conference to present Medioevo nel Borgo took place at the Sassoli Media Center in Palazzo del Pegaso. The event takes place over the weekend from 2 to 4 August in Roccatederighi, in the municipality of Roccastrada (GR). The conference was attended by the president of the Tuscan Legislative Assembly Antonio Mazzeo, the regional councilor Donatella Spadi, the regional councilor for Economy Leonardo Marras, the mayor of Roccastrada Francesco Limatola and the president of the Proloco of Roccatederighi Giulio Galdi.
Every first weekend of August, Roccatederighi catapults itself into a timeless journey, immersing itself in the evocative scenery of the Middle Ages in the heart of the village. The shops reopen their doors, the residents transform into the context of the time.
The ancient streets tell stories of weary peasants, thoughtful pilgrims, and shrewd merchants, each proudly displaying fine fabrics, art objects, and tools essential to daily life. As the sun gives way to night, the dim light of lanterns reveals culinary delights to be savored. Outside, the rhythmic sound of clogs and evocative melodies create a magical atmosphere, transporting anyone who ventures on this extraordinary journey through the ages.
It is a total immersion in the charm and vibrancy of the past, an experience that enchants the senses and captivates the soul of anyone who joins this one-of-a-kind celebration. There will be: historical re-enactments in period clothing, ancient crafts, artisan workshops, itinerant musicians, shows in the square, scenes of daily life, taverns with typical dishes of the medieval period, medieval games of the Cupatino Company.
Si starts on Friday 2 August 2024 from 18 pm with the opening of the medieval gates and the start of shows in the historic centre; Saturday 3 August 2024 from 17pm Games of Power (Part 00) followed by a falconry show and shows until late at night; Sunday 4 August 2024 from 17 pm Games of Power (2nd Part) followed by presentation of the Palio and shows until late at night, at 23 pm execution of the Penalty and grand finale.
“Tuscany is a land that manages to attract tourists in large cities and small villages – said Antonio Mazzeo president of the regional council – and this summer millions of tourists pass through our territories. Roccatederighi is one of the emblematic and most beautiful places in our region and returns to the Middle Ages from 2 to 4 August trying to tell the identity of a territory, the art, the history, the culture, involving the best energies and street art. The challenge we have made is to make these enchanting places known, more decentralized, and which are perhaps less known by the general public. Tuscany is a land of bell towers and differences, and it is precisely in the variety and diversity of the cultural proposals that the strength of our territory lies.”
“A tradition consolidated for many years of an event that brings the medieval atmosphere to life in a village in the Maremma – said regional councilor Donatella Spadi – and which has established itself thanks to the commitment of the municipal administration, associations and volunteers who are committed to creating three days of celebration with unique and magical atmospheres.”
“An event to which I am particularly fond and which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the region– said regional councilor Leonardo Marras – and there is the commitment of the entire country and the community for the perfect success of the event, it is truly worth participating in this splendid initiative that was born in the heart of Tuscany.”
“In Roccatederighi you go back in time to an era of ladies, knights, street artists and jugglers – said the mayor of Roccastrada Francesco Limatola – and this initiative has been alive for many years thanks to a very strong community and the commitment of a Pro Loco that manages to involve many young people every year. A festival that has its roots in the tradition of the country, but which is able to attract the new generations and which strengthens the sense of belonging to a community."
“In this review we have recalled all our friends who participated in the various editions of 'Middle Ages in the village' – said Giulio Galdi president of the Pro Loco – and so we celebrate our birthday. In these three days we try to take our village back in time, cutting off the electricity, carrying the torches and creating a highly evocative scenario. We hope to have a success with the public and we believe we can create an incredible show in this edition as happens every year."
