Pesaro welcomes Korean Week: music, cinema, art and food to discover Korea

The year as Capital as an opportunity to consolidate international relations and strengthen promotion in the world. For this, from 20 to 23 June – not surprisingly in the days of the International New Cinema Exhibition - Pesaro 2024 welcomes the 'Korean Week', a week' of widespread events in the heart of the city to discover Korean culture in 360°, between music, cinema, art and food.

Included in the official calendar of Pesaro 2024 Italian Capital of Culture, The event is sponsored by the Municipality of Pesaro, the Korean Embassy in Italy and the Korean Cultural Institute in Rome and is organized by Confcommercio. Korean Week will take place a: Palazzo Gradari, Alusfera, Galleria Rossini, Piazzale della Libertà, Opera Restaurant. The inaugural event is scheduled for Thursday 20 June from 19pm in the Metaurense Hall of Palazzo Ducale in the presence of the Korean Ambassador to Italy.

2024 represents an important year for relations between Italy and the Republic of Korea, as it marks 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The anniversary is even more significant for Pesaro 2024, linked to the Republic of Korea by an almost half-century-old bond of friendship and respect, in the last decade consolidated in the themes of culture and sustainable development and expanded to several Korean cities, organizations and personalities. Between these, Daegu, Busan and the other destinations that share with Pesaro the title of UNESCO Creative Cities of Music, Gwacheon with which there is an active collaboration in the cultural field, the Jeju International Convention Center, Maestro Yang Jae Moo and the "I Maestri" voice orchestra.

Next to the music, the union pdeep between Pesaro and this country is in the name of cinema. To South Korea, Pesaro Film Festival had already dedicated the 2005 event. This year, the 60th edition of the Pesaro Capitale Festival returns to analyze South Korean cinematography – now a true international point of reference – through collaboration with the Busan Cinema Center which has selected a program of feature films and short films for three days of the festival. The Pesaro Film Festival will host a window on the cinema of the Republic of Korea, of recognized avant-garde in digital audiovisual production and will propose a round table on the state of the art of cinema in Korea, including the productions of television series, a true cult of recent years.

The following spoke at the press conference: Daniele Vimini president of the Pescheria Foundation for the Visual Arts Centre, Amerigo Varotti Director of Confcommercio Marche Nord, Cristian Della Chiara and Pedro Armocida (linked) for the Venice International Film Festival, Chun Ye Jin director of the Korean Cultural Institute in Italy (linked), Alessandra Frontini/Mybeautyroutine.it, Enrico Francesconi/opera restaurant Trattoria Contemporanea di Quartiere, e connecting: the artist Sun Hee Moon, Silvio Franceschinelli/K-ble Jungle, So Hyun Lee, soprano, Inkie Kim and Dajung Kim/UNESCO focal point for the Creative City of Daegu, Park Siyeon Jazz band.

The greeting speech entrusted to Chun Ye Jin who underlined the value of this initiative which occurs in a special year – 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and the Republic of Korea – and thanked Pesaro for its great commitment in organizing the week which includes various events in different areas.

So Daniele Vimini: I express my gratitude for this collective effort thanks to which this June event dedicated to Korea took shape, a country chosen for its twenty-year history of relations with Korea, a bond that has its roots in cinema, but which has then also been strengthened in the network of UNESCO Creative Cities - such as Daegu, the city of music - but also those of other clusters, Busan, the city of cinema for example. The program of the week is the result of these relationships. Thanks to Confcommercio who believed in this challenge which is an opportunity for cultural exchange and tourist exchange, and the hope is to replicate the formula in Korean cities as a mutual tourist promotion.

Silvio Franceschinelli contact person for the K-POP section of the week illustrated the contest open to solo dancers and crews then evaluated by a jury of experts, which is part of a larger Italian contest.

Enrico Francesconi for K-FOOD section which effectively opens the Korean Week, underlined how Opera was one of the pioneer venues for the pop up formula, temporary restaurants to raise awareness of connections between different gastronomic cultures; in this case Korea with 6 dinners.

Cristian Della Chiara and Pedro Armocida they illustrated the project connection between the Pesaro Film Festival and Korea, more precisely Busan UNESCO Creative City of Cinema, through the Busan Cinema Center with which a reciprocity program was built that They plan days dedicated to Korea at the Pesaro Film Festival and then days in Busan with Italian cinema. Among other things, it was an opportunity to reactivate a historic hall of the Film Festival such as the Cinema Astra. The other collaboration composite – element of the Pesaro 2024 dossier – is with the Sarajevo Film festival, which includes the production of a short documentary film made in Pesaro after a few days of residency with the students of Sarajevo.

Sun Hee Moon the artist who he curates the exhibition at the Rossini Gallery he expressed his thanks for the precious opportunity that offers a showcase to Korea's culture by creating an artistic bridge.

Amerigo Varotti: I thank the Municipality of Pesaro which solicited the participation of Confcommercio in this event which is a great container of many initiatives. We are proud of this calling for an event that is the result of a constant series of relationships that the city of Pesaro has carried forward over all these years and which contribute to an increase in tourist flows from Korea, also because Pesaro is the ideal city to welcome Korean tourists for its music, culture and gastronomic excellence.

I know Hyun Lee: “I'm happy to participate because Pesaro is my second homeland and speaking of Korean culture we cannot fail to mention Pesaro, whose Conservatory has a very high reputation in Korea, having raised many musicians”.

Alessandra Frontini contact person for K-BEAUTY: we deal with it of Korean cosmetics since 2017 and therefore we will be present with great honor with two masterclasses in which we will explain what Korean skin care is, a peculiarity of the culture of this country.

Final goodbyes – also in music – by Inkie Kim and Dajung Kim/UNESCO focal point for the Creative City of Daegu and the Park Siyeon Jazz band.
