They have been approx 2500 Civil Protection volunteers who received public praise during the traditional Civil Protection Volunteer Day of the Marche Region. A day celebrated this year in Pesaro which was dedicated to the commitment of all those who they did their utmost during the tragic flood events of September 2022. An opportunity to thank the volunteers also for the work carried out in the areas hit by bad weather in the last week, for which a state of emergency has been recognized.

“Volunteer Day represents a fundamental moment to reaffirm the central role of volunteers in the Civil Protection system of the Marche, who work every day with great professionalism and passion at the service of the community. said the Councilor for Civil Protection Stefano Aguzzi-. This day is dedicated to those who, with their commitment and dedication, make possible an efficient civil protection ready to face the most difficult challenges: making yourself available to others is a great example for society, especially doing it for free and wearing a uniform. Volunteers are the backbone of our emergency response and relief system. The tragic flood of 2022 taught us how important it is to have a strong and prepared network, and today we celebrate not only the past, but also the strength and solidarity that guide us towards the future. Thank you all for your courage, dedication and love for our community”.

I volunteers of Civil Protection in the Marche are 12 thousand divided into 347 voluntary associations. Those who were activated for the flood emergency of 2022 were about 2400 for a total of 6330 man-days. For the emergency of the last few days, the volunteers activated up to now have been 1140.

The morning opened with a Mass officiated by His Excellency Monsignor Sandro Salvucci Archbishop of Pesaro at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta; followed by the procession of volunteers from the Cathedral to Piazza del Popolo where Monsignor Salvucci blessed the volunteers and vehicles. During the demonstration in the square, a passage of the civil protection air team of the Fano Aero Club Association.

The central moment was the welcome on stage of the representatives of the Bodies and Institutions, which saw the interventions of the authorities: present, in addition to the councilor Aguzzi, the regional director of Civil Protection and Territorial Security Stefano Stefoni, the mayor Andrea Biancani, the vice-prefect Antonio Angeloni. They were finally delivered Certificates of thanks for volunteers to provincial and regional representatives of voluntary organizations.

In his speech, Stefoni expressed sincere gratitude towards the volunteers, highlighting the constant commitment of the regional council and the importance of direct management of funding for risk mitigation works by the Civil Protection. A strategy that is allowing, especially in the context of hydrogeological risk, to address critical issues in all areas that have suffered from these critical issues in the past. The day ended with a lunch at the sports hall in via Partigiani, guaranteed by the field kitchen of the CB Club E. Mattei organization of Fano.
