Padua: the project “Aging well? A possible challenge” kicks off with public meetings in the neighborhoods
The project, created by the University of Padua and the Municipality, proposes a series of meetings to raise awareness of active aging, addressing issues such as prevention, self-care and legal aspects, with events in the neighborhoods and at Palazzo Moroni.
Padua: the project “Aging well? A possible challenge” is underway with public meetings in the neighborhoods.
Given the success of last year's project on active ageing, The Department of Molecular Medicine of the University of Padua has decided to relaunch with a new project, “Aging well – a possible challenge”, increasing the topics covered, the partners involved and the users to whom the various initiatives are addressed.
The first to restart, from November 19th, are the 13 public meetings, 9 distributed in all six districts and 4 in the Elderly Room of Palazzo Moroni, activated in collaboration with the Prisma Service of the Social Services Sector of the Municipality of Padua.
The goal remains to educate people to take care of themselves, through strategies that slow down the physical and mental aging processes, and to make known the various legal instruments useful for asserting one's will and personality.
This year too, these are real "instructions" on topics relevant to active ageing, which They touch on issues that are part of each of our lives, such as stress management and infection prevention, muscles, nutrition, the importance of free radicals in everyday life, new cancer therapies, precision medicine and bioethics.
"We enthusiastically propose a project that has proved to be an opportunity to try to look at old age with different eyes - comments the councilor for social affairs, Margherita Colonnello - Aging well is a possible challenge and also with this new series of meetings we try to propose and stimulate reflections on possible sustainable models that enhance active aging, planning ability and the life experience of old age. Our main objective is aimed at promoting the personal growth of the elderly person by spreading good practices and promoting the right to be an active part of society by taking care of oneself, staying healthy, being informed, deciding, participating. The Municipality and the University therefore continue to actively collaborate together to intercept new needs and to improve the quality of life of the elderly person and their family".
"Also this year the Department of Molecular Medicine of the University of Padua makes its skills available to the community - from basic research to clinical practice, to bioethics - to help promote a new culture of old age, developing awareness of both the resources for protecting physical and mental health, and the ethical-legal tools for making decisions for oneself even in the final phase of life (biological will and shared care planning) - Says Paola Brun, professor of Histology and Embryology, contact person for the Third Mission Commission of the Department of Molecular Medicine - all the speakers are professors of our Department, committed for years to research and to promoting the sharing of scientific and bioethical knowledge in society".
