Online "Bari Open Data", the new Municipality portal dedicated to the sharing and reuse of the institution's open data

It's online “Bari Open Data”, il new portal of the Municipality designed and created to be a point of reference and collection of public information assets, for the sharing and reuse of the institution's open data. In this way, the City of Bari's commitment to an open public administration capable of giving ever greater vigor to innovation towards citizens and businesses.

The fundamental principle of open data, as is known, is that public data, in compliance with current legislation, they belong to the community and as such must be reusable by anyone who has an interest in them. The portal, now fully operational after the completion of an initial test phase, therefore presents itself as a catalog that allows the search, download and preview of the open data of the Municipality of Bari, via a single access point.

Thanks to the functions of the new portal, the open data of the Municipality of Bari can therefore be used by various subjects for the purpose of carrying out analyses, discovering phenomena and/or correlations and, finally, represent them effectively through graphic visualizations that facilitate understanding. Furthermore, through the valorisation of the municipal information assets, it will be possible to facilitate decision-making processes, develop forecasts on future trends and make strategic decisions in an increasingly aware way, monitoring the main indicators of effectiveness, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of administrative procedures.

“The launch of the new Bari Open Data portal is an important stage in the digital growth path of our city – commented the deputy mayor and councilor for digital transformation Eugenio Di Sciascio -. Public data is a common good and a precious resource, capable of producing value by improving existing services and creating new ones, helping to create new development opportunities, increase administrative efficiency and simplify the lives of citizens and businesses. The open data of the Municipality of Bari is an asset belonging to everyone, which we make available through a single access point and suitable methods to facilitate simple and immediate use as much as possible by anyone who wants to consult and reuse it. The growth of Bari also passes through this important moment in its digital transformation journey, which will be useful to many entities in our territory as well as to individual citizens. We intend to continue to enrich the quantity and quality of the datasets made available on the portal, in a logic of transparent information for the benefit of citizens".

The data upload will be a continuous and constant operation, which will be developed in collaboration with various local entities. In accordance with the AGID Guidelines for the enhancement of public information assets and the Guidelines for the Design of Public Administration sites, the data published on the portal:

  • they are standard and compliant with the DCAT-AP_IT profile, a profile that defines a unique vocabulary to represent data, functional to optimizing search and sharing
  • they are available under the terms of a CC-BY license which allows them to be used freely and free of charge by anyone
  • they are accessible through the most widespread and common information technologies, including those for application interoperability (data API), and available for download in standard and open formats.

The portal “Bari Open Data” is part of the project MUSIC 2 (Axis 1 – Metropolitan Digital Agenda, Action 1.1.1.), drawn from funds PON Metro 2014-2020, which finances various solutions to enhance the collection, management and analysis of data to be made available to citizens and public decision makers for the optimization of front-end service delivery processes for the smart city.
