On 9 and 10 May Torre Grande will host the Pizza Mediterranean Cup.
On 9 and 10 May Torre Grande (Oristano) will host the Pizza Mediterranean Cup. The Mediterranean Cup of Quality Pizza, which this year reaches its 15th edition, organized by the Union of Traditional Pizza Makers and Restaurateurs in collaboration with Pizza Style School, with the patronage of the Departments of Productive Activities and Tourism of the Municipality of Oristano, it will be held in the premises of the John Kiosk on the Torre Grande seafront.
«The event is a very important event for the catering sector, a sector which represents one of the pillars of the Italian economy – underlines the Councilor for Productive Activities Rossana Fozzi -. The Sanna Council granted its patronage, demonstrating the importance that the city attributes to the event. It will be a real competition between the best pizza chefs on the island, open to the public, but will also be a unique opportunity to taste the best quality pizza and to attend shows of great interest for fans of the sector».

The event, also very important from a tourist point of view, is therefore an unmissable stop for all those who love quality pizza. It will be an extraordinary opportunity for the pizza chefs of our island to participate in an international event without having to move from Sardinia».
About thirty pizza chefs from all over the island have already signed up for the competition, from Rome, Napoli and Puglia, but also from France and Spain. The guest of honor will be the world champion Christian Tolu.
Competitors will have to try their hand at preparing various types of pizza: the classic to be prepared in a maximum of 12 minutes, on the shovel or by the meter in 20 minutes, gluten-free in 12 minutes, Neapolitan in 10 minutes, contemporary in 15 minutes, Mediterranean in 15 minutes. Among the participants also a representation of the students of the Don Deodato Meloni hotel institute.
On May 10th there will be a Master Class in quality flours and in the evening there will be a Pizza Party with tasting of pizzas and in which a type of pizza called "a wallet" or "a booklet" will be presented, which was born as a pizza for walking and street food, the first creation of which dates back to 1783.
The pizzas will be judged by a qualified jury and the competitor who has achieved the highest score in the heats in which he participated will be awarded the title of Super Champion. A special prize will be awarded to the best foreign competitor.
Competitors will have to comply with a regulation which, among other things, requires the use of a headdress and a uniform which must be complete and clean. The use of mobile phones, jewellery, bracelets, watches and rings is prohibited. In assigning scores, the jury will make use of a judge who will verify compliance with the regulations.
