Naples, gender violence told to the students of Genovesi high school
Two days of meetings on gender violence, bullying and cyberbullying, with the participation of experts and Carabinieri to raise awareness among young people on self-awareness and mutual respect.
Naples, gender violence told to the students of Genovesi high school.
The Oratorio dei Nobili was the setting for a conference with a profound and ever-present theme.
Surrounded by the 17th century frescoes of Lanfranco, the students of the Antonio Genovesi classical high school participated in a meeting entitled “Caterina’s suitcase – gender violence (sociological, psychological and legal aspects)”. The focus is on gender violence, bullying and cyberbullying. The starting point for a profound reflection, the recent life sentence of Filippo Turetta, believed to be the perpetrator of the murder of Giulia Cecchettin.
The school principal Prof. Vittorio Delle Donne introduced the students to a path of awareness. Delle Donne thanked those present, highlighting the importance of contrasting a sadly growing phenomenon. Starting right from the young, from school desks. There where self-awareness begins its most concrete path.
During the meeting, moderated by Prof. Grazia Vangi, there were speeches by Prof. Raffaella Scaperrotta Letizia (President of the Lions Club Napoli Megaride) and Prof. Gennaro Mantile (President of the Association “Mondo Scuola”). And also those of Dr. Patrizia Palumbo (President of the “Associazione Dream Team Donne in Rete” CAV), Dr. Maria Di Vicino (Psychotherapist), Dr. Federico Mantile (Neuropsychiatrist), Prof. Delia Rocco (Member of the Lions Club Napoli Camaldoli “Terra Mia” and District contact for the service “La valigia di Caterina”.
Teachers shared educational experiences and teaching strategies aimed at raising awareness among young people on gender equality and mutual respect. They also highlighted the importance of inclusive and respectful education as the basis for a healthy society.
Contributions to the theme, deeply felt by the Carabinieri, those of Captain Giovanni Spadoni (Commander of the 2nd Section of the Investigative Unit and referent for gender violence of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri of Naples) and by Lieutenant Maria Virgilio (Commander of the Operational and Radiomobile Nucleus of the CC Company of Pozzuoli).
Le Statements by Captain Giovanni Spadoni to the boys of the institute:
"Imagine for a moment living in a world where every choice you make is yours alone. Choosing what to do with your future, who to love, how to dress, where to live… It seems obvious, right? Yet, for many people, especially girls and women, it is not.
Gender violence is something that breaks this fundamental right: the right to choose. It is a form of control, of imposition. When someone tells you what to do, who to be, or worse, makes you feel that you are worthless, they are violating something sacred: your freedom. You know, gender violence is not just physical. Don't just think about bruises or wounds. It's often more subtle: words that humiliate, messages that control, decisions made for you. It's a problem that can also arise in your generation, in school desks, in WhatsApp groups, in relationships.
So, what can you do? A lot. Respect comes from small daily actions: listening, not judging, not mocking those who are different. And above all, learning to recognize the signs of a toxic relationship, for yourself and for others."
The words of the Lieutenant Virgil:
"I want to tell you something important: each of you has the right to your own identity. Be who you want to be, without fear of conditioning. If you see that someone is trying to control you or makes you feel less than what you are, speak up. We, the Carabinieri, are here for this too.
Violence is not a private matter. It is a problem for all of us, and the solution starts with you, in this room. Don't be a bystander: choose respect, for yourself and for others. And remember: choice is power."
The “Posto occupato” initiative has found space, a concrete gesture dedicated to all victims of violence, organized by the association Dream Team donne in rete. The initiative was welcomed with great interest and participation by the students, who had the opportunity to ask questions and deepen their knowledge on a topic of crucial importance.
