Modena: the renovated Storchi Theatre is ready for the season

Il Storchi Theater in Modena is ready to host the new theatre season and many events, after the interventions of improvement and qualification carried out in recent months by the Municipality. And, to allow the city to appreciate the renovated hall, Saturday 5 October, from 10pm to 19pm, the theatre will open its doors to the public for visits and the staff of Ert (Emilia-Romagna Teatro Fondazione – Teatro Nazionale) will be available to illustrate the improvement works that have been carried out, while the ticket office and the bar will be open continuously.

In fact, the works worth 626 thousand euros (funded 80 percent with a contribution from the Emilia-Romagna Region and 20 percent with municipal co-financing) started at the beginning of July inside the theater. The intervention, approved by the Superintendence, involved, among other things, the replacement of the seats in the stalls, the restoration and treatment of the wooden floor, the creation of a new video surveillance and anti-intrusion system and the implementation of the existing sound diffusion system. Only some work remains to be completed, which however will not have any impact on the use of the theater starting in the next few weeks.

The new seats are made of wood, fireproof and entirely covered in red-burgundy velvet, they are robust and highly ergonomic, and are more spaced apart to improve seating comfort, offering more space between one row and another. The replacement has led to a slight reduction in the number of seats in the stalls with a change in their arrangement, with lateral aisles and no longer in the central area, which allows for a Improved usability of the escape routes, of visibility of the stage and of acoustics in the stalls.

The reduction in seats in the stalls and balcony will be partially recovered in the boxes, where the seats will be numbered and the previous benches will be replaced by high, padded theatre stools. The seats lost will thus be in total 44.

The new distribution of the seats and the greater distance between the seats allow for a better access for motor-impaired people: if the previous stalls had a limitation in the number of places for disabled people, also due to the geometry of the escape routes (there were two dedicated places), with the reorganisation four fixed places are foreseen and the presence of single seats along the side corridors allows them to be dismantled 'when needed' to position disabled people in wheelchairs next to their companion, up to a total of 34 spots.

The 529 seats no longer used will not be disposed of as initially planned but will be used for second life through a call for proposals, giving priority to projects with social purposes.

The wooden flooring of the stalls, stage, balconies and barchesse was subjected to a sanding, cleaning and filling procedure and, subsequently, to a fireproof cycle and the application of paint and a protective impregnating finish.

The construction intervention of the new video surveillance and intrusion detection system, includes the protection of all accesses and the positioning of volumetric detectors. The new plant It allows for more efficient management of the theatre, which can be controlled remotely.

The has finally been implemented sound diffusion system existing with new technological solutions aimed at improving the conditions of enjoyment by the public, equipping the theatre with a first-rate audio system.

Furthermore, the presence of armchairs entirely in velvet allows for a higher acoustic absorption coefficient than previous seats with iron parts, with a decrease in reverberation time.
