Modena: at Terramara the laboratory “The wonders of copper”

Modena: at Terramara the “The Wonders of Copper” laboratory.

The workshop for boys and girls aged 6 to 13 at the Terramara Archaeological Park in Montale is called “The Wonders of Copper”.

The workshop is the first appointment of “November together!”, the extraordinary openings with archaeologists who extend the park season until the end of the month with a formula that alternates guided tours and workshops for girls and boys from 6 to 13 years old. Special moments to share while sipping a hot herbal tea between stories and experiments.

The copper-working workshop includes a guided tour to discover the archaeological area and two 3.500-year-old homes reconstructed in full scale, with a careful look at the surprising objects such as weapons, jewelry and bronze tools faithfully reproduced from the originals discovered in the excavations. The visit ends with an indoor activity to create a copper bracelet to decorate with the hammering technique using ancient tools: stone hammers, chisels and metal punches.

Given the limited number of places, reservations are required to offer a punctual service. The cost per participant is 5 euros (from 6 years old) and 3 euros for the companion (free from 65 years old). Information and reservations: 335 8136948 (9 am - 13 pm from Monday to Friday), 059 532020 (during the opening hours of the Park), museo@parcomontale.it.

A second creative workshop in the footsteps of ancient craftsmen is scheduled for Sunday 24 November: this time the theme will be “Between hole… and drill” and participants will try their hand at building a “flywheel” drill that the artisans of the terramare used to work wood and create tools and ornaments.
