Milano: The presentation of the volume “Rossella Gilli. The Power of the Elements” at the Royal Palace.
Monday 6 March, of Conference Room of the Royal Palace a Milano there will be a presentation of the volume “Rossella Gilli. The Power of the Elements”, published by Skira edited by Fortunato D'Amico. Within the important monograph, in three languages, there are texts by Fortunato D'Amico including an exhaustive interview that focuses on the salient points of Rossella Gilli's work.
The event will involve speakers Domenico Piraina, director of Palazzo Reale, Fortunato D'Amico, curator of the volume and the artist Rossella Gilli.
The book traces a detailed overview of Rossella Gilli's artistic career, from the beginning of her career to her latest works. He precisely analyzes the evolutions of his art making and the continuous research through different techniques and materials. Gilli's works are very varied and rich in symbolism, finding expression on canvases, sculptures, engravings and jewellery.
His art is influenced by the great masters of art such as Caravaggio, Leonardo, Titian, Degas, Turner and Casorati, as well as famous sculptors such as Medardo Rosso. The attention to design, to the rendering of volumes, to light and color emerges clearly in the canvases with architectural and naturalistic subjects and in the nudes. Furthermore, the spiritual aspect is often linked to the 5 elements of Chinese philosophy: metal, wood, water, fire and earth.
The artist defines his works as "alchemical", as they show how blurred the boundary between concrete and abstract reality is. His poetics highlights a continuous reworking and reinterpretation of signs and symbols, which determines an external change connected to the dynamics and internal movements of the soul. This path occurs independently, without a pre-established process, but requires particular sensitivity and leads to recognizing the movement of knowledge beyond the provisional nature of matter.
The eighty images of the works are grouped into macro-themes, such as Nudes and Portraits, Sea, Earth, Sand, Rock, Architecture, Sculptures, Flowers, Jewels. Each of them shows the fine-tuning of the alchemical process, that is, the transformation of real subjects into allegorical representations. The images of water, sand, rocks, stones and architecture reveal different readings that give rise to multiple interpretations.
The flower is the most suitable alchemical symbol to represent Rossella Gilli, often depicted by the artist. In it are hidden the mysteries of life revealed through the careful analysis of shape and perfect geometry.
