Milano: The legendary Mummenschanz celebrate 50 years of success at the National Theatre.
To celebrate 50 years of their splendid artistic career, i Mummenschanz, one of the most unique companies in the world, nicknamed “The musicians of silence”, they choose Milano: at the National of Milano from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th March, led by its founder Floriana Frassetto.
A fantastic and poetic journey in which the ordinary becomes extraordinary, the transformation becomes an art form in which silence is a great protagonist, everyday objects come alive with unexpected perspectives, infusing them with new life. A playful, interactive, poetic story, punctuated by small sketches, aimed at everyone, adults and children, and where fun, sweetness, poetry and above all imagination are the real protagonists.
“My heart is full of joy, pride and gratitude – says Floriana Frassetto – because what Bernie Schürch, Andres Bossard and I created fifty years ago continues to amaze and make audiences all over the world laugh even today. Our form of expression, a theatrical game made of masks, shapes and lights, is one of a kind. I am happy to still thrill people of different cultures today with our playful and poetic art, voiceless but full of imagination, awakening the boy or girl in each of you."
During the show, the public will be able to witness the company's most famous and loved sketches, including clay masks and faces made from toilet paper rolls. There will also be the fragile air giants, the tube man and other surprising characters, who come to life thanks to the imagination of the five actors Tess Burla, Sarah Lerch, David Labanca, Manuel Schunter and Floriana Frassetto herself.
Since its founding in Paris in 1972, i Mummenschanz are the symbol par excellence of contemporary mask comedy, beyond every geographical, linguistic and cultural barrier. Without words, music or scenography, they conquered the whole world with their exclusively visual stories, using only masks, bodies and a black background, creating a new dimension of the art of making theatre.
