Milano, the historic “Sebino Express” train returns: discovering Lake Iseo

A successful initiative, now in its eighth edition, promoted by the Department of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Fondazione Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane and FS Treni Turistici Italiani.
Starting from the Lombardy capital, the train travels towards the Bergamo area inside the Oglio River Regional Park, bordering the Camonica Valley. Here, among the rolling hills of Franciacorta and the first pre-Alpine foothills, it opens up Lake Iseo, surrounded by mountains and dotted with splendid villages rich in art and traditions. The train, after the stages of Treviglio and Rovato, arrive at Palazzolo sull'Oglio and then reaches Paratico-Sarnico where it once took place, on the still existing pier, the transport service of railway wagons on barges to the Lovere steelworks.

To support the valorization activities of the historical heritage of the railway, as per the service contract, Region Lombardy makes 600.000 euros available every year. Of this budget, approx 300.000 € they are intended for historic trains, carried out by the Fs Foundation.
The calendar this year includes 20 circulations. Among the main ones new features introduced compared to the past, 2 vintage train circulations on the itinerary Milano-Brescia-Desenzano with departures scheduled for June 9th and September 1st, and from Milano in Genoa on July 14 and November 3 with the ETR 252'Harlequin', the legendary electric train of the FS Foundation, symbol of Made in Italy and of the economic boom of the 60s.
Repurposed, the most popular itineraries are:
- Laveno Express: from Milano discovering Lake Maggiore. Next scheduled departures Sunday 2 June, 8 September;
- Lario Express da Milano and Monza to Como and Lecco. Already carried out on Sunday 12 May, next appointment on October 13th;
- Sebino Express da Milano to Lake Iseo (Paratico). Departures scheduled for Sunday 19 May, 16 June, 15 September and 20 October;
- Lomellina Express da Milano in Mortara. Departures scheduled for Sunday 26 May and 29 September on the occasion of the “Welcome to Lomellina” event and the Goose Salami Festival respectively.
- Besanino Express da Milano for Besana, Molteno and Lecco. Departures scheduled for Sunday 22 September and 27 October.
Expected, finally, two historic trains on the itinerary Milano – Chiavenna (Sunday 23 June) and between Milano and Cremona (Sunday 17 November, for the Nougat Festival).
