Milano: journalistic award and a photographic exhibition in memory of Almerigo Grilz
The first edition of the Almerigo Grilz Journalism Award, a tribute to the first Italian reporter to fall in a war theater since the end of the Second World War, was presented yesterday at Palazzo Lombardia, in the presence of the President of the Senate and the City Councilors. A photographic exhibition was inaugurated during the presentation and a special award was donated in memory of Franco di Mare.

Presented yesterday, Monday 20 May, at Palazzo Lombardia the first edition of the 'Almerigo Grilz' Journalism Award, dedicated to the first Italian reporter to fall in a theater of war since the end of the Second World War.
An award for young journalists under the age of 40 e can count on a jury chaired by Toni Capuozzo It's composed by Maurizio Belpietro, Fausto Biloslavo, Giovanna Botteri, Gian Marco Chiocci, Peter Gomez, Mauro Mazza, Gian Micalessin, Gabriele Micalizzi, Alessandro Salusti, Francesco Semprini e Gabriella Simoni.
The winners of the Journalism Award are were announced last night starting at 19pm during an event scheduled at the Teatro dell'Arte della Triennale di Milano. Meanwhile yesterday, at Palazzo Lombardia, it was announced that aSpecial prize in memory was awarded to the war correspondent Franco Di Mare, who passed away in recent days. “It was supposed to be a career recognition – he commented Gian Micalessin - Unfortunately, however, Franco left us too soon."
At the same time, the Isola Set space of Palazzo Lombardia was inaugurated, in the presence of the President of the Senate, multimedia exhibition entitled 'The Eyes of War' which retraces the major conflicts on the world stage from 1982 through texts, photographs and videos by Almerigo Grilz, Fausto Biloslavo and Gian Micalessin.
The exposure from yesterday it can be visited with free entry until June 2, 2024.

The recognition and the exhibition are a tribute to his figure and a thank you to those who, like him, have the strength and skill to talk about conflicts in the field, offering valuable contributions for all of us."

The hope is that young people can inherit from him the courage and passion he put into his work as a war correspondent."

I got to know Almerigo very well, he was one of my closest friends and he was a journalist who really went to the front line to document forgotten conflicts. It fills me with joy that the memory is now shared by people of different political and cultural orientations. As a friend and as president of the Senate I would like to say thank you to Almerigo for the service he has carried out in favor of information and freedom".
Almerigo Grilz from 1982 to 1987 he reported on the conflicts in the field Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Philippines, Mozambique, Iran, Cambodia and Burma. His reports were broadcast on TG1, Channel 5, CBS (USA), 2 antenna (France), NBC (USA), NDR (Germany) and were published by newspapers including Panorama, Avvenire, Sabato, Rivista Italiana Difesa, Sunday Times, L'Express and Jane's Defense Weekly. Grilz died at age 34 in 1987 while documenting, camera in hand, the conflict in Mozambique.
