Milano, the new “Futura” artist residency project at the Fabbrica del Vapore
Dialogues between artists in residence and international guest artists
Milano, the new “Futura” artist residency project at the Fabbrica del Vapore.
It started in early May Futura, the new artist residency project in Fabbrica del Vapore, promoted by City of Milano. A curator (Giacomo Zaza), winner of an international call, and six Italian artists, also selected through a further call, will create a laboratory of art and thought strongly connected to our contemporaneity and open to a multidirectional exploration of reality.
«Our goal is to transform Fabbrica del Vapore into the symbol of a new urban paradigm: a home for creativity, a new space for the community, increasingly green and inclusive, an environment porous to the stimuli that come from the territory and to the artistic and cultural sensitivities that come from all over the world – declared the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi -. Fabbrica del Vapore is located in the center of an area of great historical and cultural importance characterized by great wealth from a social point of view, thanks to the presence of communities from different parts of the world. This helps to create a lively and cosmopolitan environment, which will find an increasingly open, versatile and sustainable space in the Factory – continues councilor Sacchi -. After the first positive experience which saw Fabbrica hosting two Ukrainian artists and a curator in residence, just after the Russian aggression on their country, we continue with enthusiasm with a second project that looks to the future, open to contamination and in dialogue with contemporaneity».
The artists selected for the residencies, who will live and work in the Fabbrica until the end of August 2023, are Benedetta Fioravanti, Valentina Furian, Nicoletta Grillo, Lisa Martini, Giovanna Repetto e Davide Sgambaro. All are united by their young age and multimedia research, which ranges from the most classic media, such as drawing, to the more experimental ones such as digital processing.
