Milano, at Mudec the mural by Flavio Favelli “The Thirty”.
In the presence of the Councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi, on Tuesday 11 April 2023 at 17.30 pm a new mural painting by Flavio Favelli, Entitled The Thirty. The work is part of the urban art program linked to the exhibition Rainbow. Colors and wonders between myths, arts and science (opened at MUDEC on 17 February and open to visitors until 2 July 2023) and is the result of a partnership between Milano Public Art and the BASE cultural center.
The mural is located in the courtyard that connects the MUDEC at BASE, and wants to be the first of several public art interventions born from the collaboration between the two institutes and located in the former Ansaldo area where both are based.
The work presents itself as the reproduction through a very essential pictorial sign of thirty passports from different countries around the world. To illustrate it, we quote the artist's words directly:
«For many years I have focused on stamps, banknotes, flags and documents, in practice the visual language of power, one of the most interesting (sometimes as complex as it is banal) on which I have produced many works including assemblages, compositions, collages, paintings and indeed murals. Despite being common and important objects, passports, just like banknotes, are widely seen, but little looked at and known. The project consists of painting the subjects of the covers of various passports, the most interesting ones for me. By interesting I mean between the obsolete and the problematic, between the distant and the exotic, between the mysterious and the outcast, between the ambiguous and the complicated (aren't these the terrains of the conscious artist?)».
