Milano: at the Carcano Theater in Milano Ambra Angiolini and Arianna Scommengna in “The Knot”.

From 7 to 9 March at the Carcano Theater in Milano, will go on stage "The knot", by the American playwright Johnna Adams, Directed by Serena Sinigaglia and interpreted by Ambra Angiolini e Ariadne Scommegna. Set in a sixth-grade class at a public school in Lake Forest, a small town near Chicago, it focuses on an intense comparison between the world of school and the complicated universe of parent-child relationships, which addresses delicate and overwhelmingly current issues , such as homosexuality and bullying, investigating the reasons that generate the latter. What are the educational responsibilities of parents and what are those of institutions towards their children? Whose fault is it if our children turn into victims or executioners? How is it possible that yes
can unleash such violence as to induce a boy or girl to kill themselves? Where are we wrong? Who's wrong? Whose responsibility is it?
The play asks absolute questions as happens in Greek tragedies, it seeks the causes and not the effects. This is the power of theatre: it lays bare, in the synthesis and intensity that distinguish it, the deepest contradictions of man, the ultimate reasons for his actions.
Heather Clark and Corryn Fell Gidion's teacher and mother, I am the reincarnation of all Medea and Jason, Dionysus and Pentheus, Eteocles and Polyneices, and of all of us as individuals and as a society. Consequently, it places us face to face with our responsibilities: for every wounded, humiliated boy, but also for those who humiliate and hurt, we are the ones who are defeated, as individuals and as a society: ours is the responsibility, ours is the punishment and the pain .
Among the Director's Notes, Serena Sinigaglia writes:

Gidion's mother and teacher fight to save themselves from the abyss of guilt and perhaps to find meaning in such a horrible death. In the din and clamor of their battle they do not notice that only one voice remains silent and distant: that of their son.
The Gordian knot is a knot that you cannot untangle except by cutting it cleanly. The metaphor of the title is therefore very clear: there are conflicts that can no longer be resolved, but only severed.
And therefore: we should never find ourselves in circumstances so extreme as to be irrecoverable.
Educating tomorrow's generation is the most sacred, the highest human responsibility. Neglecting it is a very serious act that inevitably leads to equally serious consequences. Nevertheless
We live in a society where parents too often defend their children to the bitter end, in reality defending nothing other than themselves. A society where teachers are underpaid and little, very little considered. A society where any child has the right to rule on the validity of teaching. A society where sometimes being a teacher is a fallback, not the most noble of roles. A society that has overturned the key principle not only of education but also of good social living: respect for roles. It is often said that there are no more masters. The point is, in my opinion, that there are no more students. On Facebook, on Twitter, on Instagram, everyone can have their say on any topic, without having the skills or even the slightest experience. A brutal chaos in which they easily get entangled
the most fragile.
Haether and Corryn are two tragic figures who face each other, the battlefield is the class, the time is that of interview time and to be precise from 14.45pm to 16.15pm. An hour and a half of attacks, defenses, strategies, agreements hoped for and immediately betrayed, without stopping. A great performance as an actor. Ambra Angiolini and Arianna Scommegna will fight this battle for us on stage in the hope that we can return to speaking to each other with a sense of responsibility and respect.
Because talking to each other is better than fighting, always.
“The Knot is like life itself, sad, funny, surprising… a beautiful, disturbing story.”
