Milano it's memory: at Palazzo Moriggia the exhibition that tells the propaganda of the Italian Social Republic.
Milano, opens to the public from tomorrow to Palazzo Moriggia|Museum of the Risorgimento the documentary exhibition “1943-1944. Images and propaganda of the Italian Social Republic” which tells the propaganda of the time through posters, postcards, newspaper pages and magazines of the time Republica Social Italiana (RSI).
The exhibition, set up in Glass Hall of Palazzo Moriggia until November 19th, is curated by Anna Kuliscioff Foundation with the collaboration of Civic Historical Collections. The underlying theme of the exhibition is the political communication of Republica Social Italiana (RSI), the collaborationist state that Mussolini established under German occupation and which was the last season of fascism.
The main purpose of CSR propaganda was to rally a population now tried and disillusioned, gathering it around ancient myths and new values. On the other hand, the forces of the Resistance oriented political communication against fascism and Nazism, evoking a new free Italy and democratic; the allied forces also participated in this propaganda war, using the instrument of satire on Mussolini and Hitler.
The exhibition itinerary is divided into seven sections: at the opening “The tale of 1943” presents the period from Mussolini's resignation to the armistice of Badoglio, followed by the section “Myths and precursors” illustrates the instrumental recovery of the ideals of the Risorgimento in support of the objectives of CSR. The exhibition continues with testimonies of the newfound alliance between the new fascist state and Nazi Germany in the section "The axis found” and continues by illustrating the methods used by RSI to present allies to the people in the section “The representation of the enemy".
The RSI recruitment campaign is documented in the section "The stick and the carrot: the armed republic, socialization”, while in the section “Towards the end… and on the other side?” the last flashes of the regime are presented, now dying and with a sealed fate. The exhibition itinerary ends with “The Civic Historical Collections of Milano and the Italian Social Republic", which highlights the incessant documentation activity carried out by the Civic Historical Collections of Milano and the social and political role they play.
