Two days dedicated to the remembrance and memory of the 15 Martyrs open the80th anniversary of the Piazzale Loreto massacre.
Today, Friday 9 August, the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo and the president of the Permanent Anti-fascist and ANPI Committee of Milano Primo Minelli, together with some of the relatives of the Martyrs of Piazzale Loreto, wanted to pay homage to the memory of the partisans killed starting from the prison of San Vittore, from where at dawn on August 10, 1944 the 15 were taken to be taken to the place of their execution. Also present at the moment of recollection was the director of the prison "Francesco Di Cataldo", Giacinto Siciliano.
Following this, a meeting took place ceremony of remembrance also at the Campo della Gloria of the Major Cemetery, with the placing of a floral tribute where - in addition to the 15 Martyrs - all the Milanese partisans and deportees who fell during the War of Liberation are remembered.
“San Vittore is the place where the martyrdom of the 15 began, one of the saddest and most significant chapters who marked the history of the Milanese and Italian resistance: I thank the management of the prison which allowed us to be here, starting a story of memory which will continue tomorrow in Piazzale Loreto - underlined the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo -. In these years Milano has worked hard to ensure that the theme of memory is addressed not as a mere celebratory fact, but as an active experience of citizenship: a path shared together with various institutions, schools and universities, associations and citizens available to promote democratic values and freedom at the basis of our Constitutional Charter. The eightieth anniversary of the Liberation which will be celebrated next year asks from now on to reinvigorate this commitment that binds the Milanese and Milano to the democratic and anti-fascist history of our country, which is which cost the lives of our predecessors and which guarantees freedom for us and the new generations".
Tomorrow, Saturday 10 August, at 9 am in Piazzale Loreto the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo will preside over the official commemoration for the 80th anniversary of the massacre, in front of the stele with the names of the 15 Martyrs. For the occasion, the area hosting the monument will be officially entitled 'Largo 15 Martiri di Piazzale Loreto', as established by the municipal council last April, on the proposal of the councilor for culture, Tommaso Sacchi.
