They are 170 i awarded by the Lombardy Region, between volunteers, law enforcement, institutions and associations, protagonists of particular interventions and acts of courage in the context of road traffic, on the occasion of the 'Regional Road Safety and Road Brotherhood Day', which took place in Lombardy City Square in Milano.

During the event, updated data on the rescue operations related to road accidents with injuries in the Lombardy region, referring to the period 1 January – 26 October 2024. The analysis, developed on the basis of data from the regional application GEO MIS – Monitoring of Road Accidents, highlights a complex picture that underlines the importance of the measures adopted by the Lombardy Region on safety and prevention.

INCIDENCE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACCIDENTS

In 2024, until October 26, the emergency vehicles of the Lombardy Region intervened 33.140 times for road accidents with injuries, distributed as follows:

  • Collisions between cars (22,54% of the expenditure, equal to 7.469 interventions)
  • Car-motorcycle accidents (15,61% of the expenditure, equal to 5.172 interventions)
  • Bicycle falls (12,76%, with 4.228 interventions)
  • Motorcycle Falls (9,88%, equal to 3.273 interventions)
  • Pedestrian and cyclist collisions, 9,79% and 7,95% of the outflows respectively.

These data highlight the complexity of the dangers on our roads, with particular emphasis on accidents involving vulnerable users such as cyclists and pedestrians. Electric micro-mobility represents the 4,80% of accidents, indicating a growing attention to the safety of these new means of transport.

FOCUS ON MILAN AND THE LOMBARDY PROVINCES

The City of Milano recorded the highest number of rescue interventions, with 5.742 calls (42,08% of expenditure for municipalities with at least 100 interventions), followed by the cities of Brescia, Bergamo and Monza. At the provincial level, Milano represents the 34,24% of total exits (11.346), followed by Brescia and Bergamo.

COUNCILLOR LA RUSSA: THE REGION'S COMMITMENT TO ROAD SAFETY

“These numbers – declared the regional councillor for Security Romano La Russa – confirm the need to consolidate road safety policies, especially for the most vulnerable subjects such as pedestrians and cyclists. The Lombardy Region will continue to promote awareness campaigns and concrete actions to reduce the number and severity of accidents.
