Milano: ADI Design Index 2024 Annual Selection Presented

She was introduced to Milano, at the ADI Design Museum, the annual selection of ADI Design Index 2024, which opens the path to the next Compasso d'Oro award in 2026.

The event was attended by Barbara Mazzali, Councillor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion of the Lombardy Region, welcomed by the highest representatives of Adi including the president Luciano Galimberti.

As always, all categories of objects are present among the 219 selected products and services: from the traditional sector of furniture and home accessories (including wall and floor coverings), with 45 products, to domestic and public lighting (22 products) to design for mobility (cars and scooters but also boats, with 14 products). Of particular importance this year is the design for work (24 products), that of materials and technological systems for architecture (22 products) and the Exhibition Design (21 installations) to signal the increase in the role that design has conquered in cultural and commercial events.

Aesthetic value but not only

"ADI's careful selection - comments Mazzali - contributes to making Italian and Lombard design a strategic asset for the regional economy. For decades, ADI has not only recognized the aesthetic value, but also evaluated the functional, cultural and social impact of projects. Design thus generates value not only in terms of innovative products but also through the creation of new jobs and the attraction of international investments, consolidating Lombardy's position as a global center of excellence".

The selection

The selection was conducted as always over the course of a year. from the ADI Permanent Design Observatory, a group of over one hundred specialists (designers, researchers, sector journalists) which operates through territorial delegations throughout Italy to report the best design products, with the coordination of a scientific committee composed of Laura Badalucco, Makio Hasuike, Domenico Sturabotti, Laura Traldi and Francesco Zurlo.

Featured this year the desire to base this selection activity on a system of explicit rules, which ADI has developed over the seventy-year history of the Compasso d'Oro and which concern the elements which have proven to be fundamental to the value of a product today: the materials, the project, the packaging, the relationship between form and function.

The Exhibition

The exhibition will remain open at the ADI Design Museum until November 17. It will then be in Rome, from November 25 in Rome, Spazio WeGil.
