Messina: “Pink October 2023”, the program of initiatives promoted in the city was presented at Palazzo Zanca.

The month dedicated to the prevention and fight against breast cancer is back and for the anniversary of the National Metastatic Breast Cancer Day which is celebrated annually on 13 October, today, Monday 9, at Palazzo Zanca, in the presence of the Councilor for Health Policies Health, the awareness, prevention and treatment activities planned in the City were illustrated for Pink October 2023, sponsored by the Municipality of Messina in collaboration with the ASP Messina and the sector associations. The meeting was attended by doctors Antonio Farsaci and Rosaria Cuffari on behalf of the ASP; the president of the Per Te Donna Association Angela Cutrone; and representatives of the Order of Doctors and Lions Messina.

"Also for this 2023 edition of the October Pink campaign - Prevent to defeat - the municipal administration is close in sharing and supporting the aim of the initiative - highlighted councilor Calafiore - also extending greetings on behalf of the mayor Federico Basile". “The objective is to reach an increasingly larger number of women and raise their awareness of the vital importance of early diagnosis of breast cancer and regarding the correct lifestyles to adopt and the diagnostic checks to be carried out, thus trying to broaden the audience also looking at the younger generations. As per tradition, this year too - concluded the Councilor - we demonstrate our closeness through the symbolic gesture of illuminating the facade of Palazzo Zanca in fuchsia on 13 October to raise awareness among citizens and support the health authorities and the associations that work to prevention, research and information on such an important topic”.

The representatives of the ASP Messina had the opportunity to explain the commitment of the increasingly active health company to promote awareness, prevention and treatment campaigns for breast cancer, and in particular in the month of October called Rosa with a calendar of activities created in collaboration with the Municipality of Messina. In particular, they focused on the commitment of the Screening Management Center in the area which, collaborating with the Health Department of the Sicily Region on the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, makes a notable contribution to early diagnosis, reducing mortality and operating in synergy to optimize treatments which, in many cases, favor complete recovery. The activities are aimed at the entire population according to ministerial criteria, primarily involving the weakest groups and the inhabitants of the most disadvantaged areas and distant from the institutional headquarters (always active all year round) with the collaboration of Volunteer Associations and Institutions, organizing Itinerant Screening Tours with Mobile Mammography Unit.

During the meeting, the commercial for the "A voice for all" campaign promoted by Europa Donna Italia was screened.

The program of activities will start on Wednesday 11 October, at 16pm, with a meeting on the topic in Santa Maria Alemanna; scheduled from 17 to 20 October, a Traveling Screening Tour with Mobile Mammography Unit, which this year has already involved the squares of the municipalities of Tusa, Sinagra, Salina, Lipari, Brolo and the prison of Messina. Finally, on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October, the Prevention Days in Piazza Duomo are also organized in collaboration with the Lions, with the doctors of the Brest Unit of Taormina and the Mammographic Screening UOS who will carry out free mammograms and visits, making available to women who will join the initiative, the professional skills and experience of the specialists. Furthermore, the ADMO, AVIS and the Lions' volunteer doctors will be present and will offer eye examinations on the camper of the Italian Blind Union, blood pressure and blood sugar screening and advice on implementing correct lifestyles. The intention is to spread the culture of prevention so that it can reach the weakest sections of the population by continuing the Itinerant Tour towards the most disadvantaged places and trying to involve the population entirely, without exception, because everyone has the right to oncological prevention.
