Messina, in the prison of Messina a comics workshop organized by CePAS.

A comics workshop has begun in the prison of Messina, organized by CePAS (Centro Prima Accoglienza Savio) and held by the teachers Michela De Domenico and Giuliana La Malfa who are part of the Officina del Sole with Lelio Bonaccorso.
This workshop will last one month. The first meeting was attended by ten guests of the Institute. The lessons of professors De Domenico and La Malfa are reserved for the "protected male section".
The initiative of Cepas (chaired by Don Umberto Romeo) is followed and coordinated by the vice-president of the Centre, Raffaella Lombardi and makes use of the collaboration of volunteers.
The idea of a comics workshop was born because during other workshops we noticed the propensity of young people to express their emotions through drawing.
The students of the course will be encouraged to create a personal project.
The program, in fact, includes: how to draw a story, the characters and character design, the face, the human figure, hints of storytelling and the storyboard, from pencil to ink and the coloring of a comic.

The course is carried out above all thanks to the sensitivity of Lelio Bonaccorso and the availability and understanding of the director of the Institute Angela Sciavicco, the commander of the penitentiary police, Antonella Machì, the manager of the treatment area, Letizia Vezzosi and the educator Nicoletta Irrera.

CePAS has been present in the Gazzi Institute for over 30 years with training initiatives and has ongoing workshops which currently concern embroidery and crochet for the female sector. Orientation and support talks for drug addicts are also held.

“Our continuous presence and the work done for the guests – declared Lalla Lombardi – is part of a program that began many years ago and which has always given appreciable results, especially in the support of those who are restricted to Gazzi. It is clear – she concluded – that these are some of our activities and the program is much broader even if difficult to implement and tends to improve the quality of life of people who feel alone and marginalized”.
