Messina, the “Paper Nativity Scenes” exhibition at the Palacultura Antonello

On the occasion of the Christmas holidays, the municipal library “Cannizzaro”, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and the Italian association “Friends of the Nativity Scene” section of Messina, has set up an exhibition of prints on the Nativity, little images and paper nativity scenes.

The latter, particularly used in South Tyrol and Central Europe, were initially hand-painted by renowned artists, therefore the prerogative of the nobles, but in the nineteenth century with the birth of lithography, paper nativity scenes and Nativities also entered the homes of the less wealthy. The materials on display belong to the private collection of Giovanni Bagnato and Antonio Calabrese.
The exhibition can be visited on the first floor of the Palacultura Antonello, starting from 16.30 pm today, Thursday 14 December, until 2 February 2024. Entrance is free during public opening hours, from Monday to Friday, from 9am to 13pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 15pm to 18pm.
