Messina: The event “A Manifesto for Life” is held at the Palacultura Antonello.
Present the mayor Federico Basile, the superintendent of studies of Messina Stello Vadalà and the councilor for social policies Alessandra Calafiore, the event was presented today at Palazzo Zanca “A Manifesto for Life”, included within the InStradaME Project and in memory of Milena Visalli, a young road victim. Marilena De Stefano, Milena's mother, also participated in the meeting with the press.
The initiative will be held on Thursday 18th Palaculture Antonello and involves the involvement of students from high schools in Messina in a competition with the aim of informing and educating on the correct compliance with road rules.
Mayor Basile highlighted how “A Manifesto for Life” it must be "a great opportunity to raise awareness on the fundamental issues of awareness, responsibility, the value of life and the civic sense of the community. Summer is approaching and with it the desire among young people to have fun, but it must be done with conscience, prevention and with respect for everyone. In this sense, the Municipality will launch a promotional campaign on correct and responsible driving behaviors to be followed and the rules to be respected through a training course that can intervene on the cultural system to improve it and make it safer. Institutions, families, schools, law enforcement agencies and citizens must network and work in synergy to further limit the problem of road accidents".
Councilor Calafiore stated that “Milena's death must represent a gift for the numerous young people who drive every day and are called to behave carefully and correctly. Milena was a road victim on the coast road, where our campaign will continue with the creation of a bench on which a phrase chosen by the children will be written. On Thursday we will proceed with the award ceremony of the 'A Manifesto for Life' competition, dedicated to high school students with the creation of posters and related slogans for an advertising campaign in favor of road safety. Starting from ideas and sensations, students are invited to reflect and create a manifesto, thus transforming their ideas into concrete communication projects to raise awareness of safer and more prudent driving".
The superintendent Vadalà explained that “the school, in synergy with the institutions, takes on a fundamental function in this path because it trains young people; the pain of Milena's mother must be transformed into an opportunity for others, a gift and wealth for all of us", while Mrs. De Stefano declared that "Milena lives inside me, helping me to do prevention and safety, I invite anyone to join this initiative". The themes of the posters for the competition on Thursday 18th at the Palacultura are alcohol and driving, speed and vulnerable road users (motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians). The work or works chosen by the jury will be used for a specific communication campaign.
