Liberation of Ancona: anniversary commemoration ceremonies on Tuesday 18 July. The Polish ambassador was present.
They took place in the morning of Tuesday July 18 the commemoration ceremonies of 79th anniversary of the Liberation of Ancona, in which the civil, religious and military authorities participated with the presence of theAmbassador of the Republic of Poland Anna Maria Anders, daughter of the general Wladyslaw Anders, who, leading the Polish II Corps, liberated the city of Ancona in 1944. Also present Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Ancona Cristina Gorajski National Association of Partisans of Italy, the fighting and partisan associations and the weapons associations, the national association of fighters of the war of liberation.
The ceremony opened at Porta Santo Stefano (preceded by the anthems of the two nations performed by the Banda di Torrette, directed by maestro Mattia Zepponi) with the words of the mayor of Ancona, Daniele Silvetti which recalled the close bond between the city and Poland, which donated to the city precisely for last year's celebrations Memorial monument to the Carpathian Lancers Regiment. “This celebration – said the mayor – once again attests not only to an act of memory, but also to a precious act of friendship between two peoples which has been renewed for years now, in the name of the values of freedom and democracy, which they are universal values, conquered with the sacrifice of all those who gave their lives for the liberation from Nazi-fascism".
The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Anna Maria Anders in greeting those present underlined how since that 18 July 79 years ago the relationship between Ancona and Poland has become increasingly stronger and how Italians and Poles are still committed to democracy in a Europe that still has to face the drama of war on its doorstep, like the conflict in Ukraine.
In his speech Dino Spanghero, coordinator of the National Association of Partisans of Italy for the North-East he is a member of ANPI national committee, underlined how being anti-fascist today is not anachronistic and that theanti-fascism must be filled with new values, teaching young people strong civil commitment, which is commitment to improving the quality of life. Following theArchbishop of Ancona-Osimo Monsignor Angelo Spina he blessed the laurel wreaths placed in memory of the fallen under the plaque at Porta Santo Stefano commemorating the liberation of the city. Finally, the authorities reached the Pincio park, where at the Monument to the Resistance of Pericle Fazzini they renewed the homage to the fallen with laurel wreaths organized by the National Association of Partisans of Italy, the Municipality of Ancona and the Polish Embassy .
