Lecco: National Born to Read Week, for the right to stories for the little ones.

Throughout Italy, from 16th to 24th November, it is celebrated the week of Born to Read to protect the right to stories of girls and boys. Born to promote reading in the family at preschool age, The Week coincides with the International Day of Children's Rights, on November 20.

Born to Read is a national program that has been promoting family reading for children for over twenty years, supported by the Pediatricians Cultural Association, the Italian Library Association and the Child Health Center Onlus. Present in over 2000 Italian municipalities with approximately 800 local projects, the program is animated by librarians, pediatricians, educators, public bodies and volunteer associations, all united in the goal of promoting reading in preschool age, thus improving the intellectual, linguistic, emotional and relational development of children, with long-lasting benefits over time.

On the occasion of this week, the libraries of the Lecco Territory Library System have scheduled a calendar of over 30 events, with many reading meetings for children and families; Furthermore, this year, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Nati per Leggere, on Saturday 23 November at 10.30 am a conference will be organised at the same time throughout Italy a Flash Mob dedicated to the importance of reading in the family, open to girls, boys, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers and the entire community.

There are 6 libraries of the System that have joined the initiative: Barzio, Calolziocorte, Colle Brianza, Colico, Ello and Mandello del Lario.

The program of readings and events, always updated, is available on the website lecco.biblioteche.it by clicking on the dedicated banner.

Simona Piazza, President of the Library System of the Lecco Area:
"Stories, with their words and images, are an inexhaustible source of stimuli that, if offered early and continuously, have a profound effect on the child's life itinerary and are capable of weaving and recreating, starting from the voice, a powerful tool for relationships. Initiatives such as those planned in many libraries in our area are certainly an important opportunity to raise awareness among families about the importance of early reading for boys and girls aged 0-6.
The focus of the National Born to Read Week must be to stimulate awareness of the program because readings take place all year round in libraries, nurseries, kindergartens and local health centers.
The Library System, with its 68 associated libraries, has always promoted the Born to Read program in the belief that shared reading from the first months of life can stimulate the main communication and linguistic skills of children.".
